Port Talbot Funeral Service

Port Talbot Funeral Service Independent Funeral Services | Private Chapel of Rest | 24 Hour Personal Service It closed its doors in 2008 as a Church and was left to deteriorate.

Holy Cross Church, otherwise known as the Chapel of Ease was built in 1827 with the permission of Margams 'Talbot' family. Plans were sought to change the Church into a house, which included relocating several headstones and surfacing over those graves to provide a parking area. However, Mr Malcolm Evans, a lifelong member of the Church and local funeral director purchased this beautiful building

and restored it to its former glory including the magnificent stained glass window. The surrounding grounds are also maintained meaning the final resting place for your loved ones is both a beautiful and peaceful place to visit.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of supporting a family with a funeral service held at All Saints Church, Oystermouth, the first time we have had the opportunity to use this beautiful church.

As you’ll see from the photos, it provides a truly fitting and peaceful setting to honour and remember a loved one. Its character and surroundings offer a real sense of comfort during what can be a very difficult time.

The service was followed by a woodland burial at Oystermouth Cemetery, a natural and tranquil environment that allowed for a personal and meaningful farewell.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this time. 🕊️

Behind the scenes this weekend, we have been preparing for the days ahead.

Each service we carry out is treated with the utmost care, dignity and respect, and every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure families are supported at what is often a very difficult time.

No two farewells are ever the same, but our commitment remains constant, to provide a personal and compassionate service for every family we are entrusted to care for.

Our thoughts are with the families we are supporting this week.

We’re really pleased to be hosting our first Community Day at the church on Sunday 17th May.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working hard to care for and improve both the church and the surrounding grounds, and we’d love to invite the community to be part of that journey.

Whether you can spare an hour or the full afternoon, any help is greatly appreciated. There will be a range of small jobs both inside and outside, from tidying graves and light gardening to helping us care for the interior of the church.

Teas and coffees will be provided, and most importantly it’s a chance to come together, meet others and take pride in a space that means so much to so many.

Local businesses are also very welcome to get involved and support the day.

If you’d like to take part, please drop us a message to let us know.

We hope to see you there.

Weekly Goat Update… and what a welcome! 🐐😂

I walked into the grounds and this is the reception I got… safe to say personal space isn’t really a thing with this lot!

They’re all doing really well and full of energy, and as you can see, always ready to greet visitors (especially if they think there might be a treat involved!).

They’ve well and truly settled in now and have become part of the daily routine… and clearly the welcoming committee too!

If you’re passing, feel free to pop in and say hello… just be prepared for a very enthusiastic greeting! 🐐

Over recent weeks, we’ve been continuing our efforts to care for both the grounds and the chapel here at Port Talbot Funeral Service.

Alongside the work outside, we’ve also been making improvements inside the chapel itself, carefully restoring some of the original wooden features and furniture to help bring the space back to its former character and beauty.

Our chapel offers families the opportunity to spend quiet time in a traditional setting, providing a peaceful place for reflection and remembrance with their loved ones.

We feel it’s important that the environment reflects the level of care and respect we provide, and we’re proud to be creating a space that is both welcoming and comforting for the families we look after.

Here are a few photos showing some of the work we’ve been doing 🤍

It’s that time again… your weekly goat update! 🐐

The goats are doing really well and continuing to keep themselves busy around the grounds… although as you’ll see in this video, they’re just as interested in following Chris (and his daughter!) as they are in the overgrowth!

This is very similar to the video that started it all, and safe to say not much has changed… wherever Chris goes, they’re never far behind!

They’ve all settled in brilliantly and are full of character, keeping us entertained daily while doing their bit around the grounds.

Keep an eye out for more weekly updates, and if you haven’t met them yet, you’re always welcome to come and say hello. 🐐

What to do when someone passes away?

When someone passes away, it can be an incredibly difficult and overwhelming time. It’s often hard to know what to do first, especially when emotions are still very raw.

While every situation is different, there are a few gentle steps that can help guide you during those early moments.

If your loved one passes away at home, you will need to contact their GP or call 111, who will arrange for a medical professional to attend and confirm the death.

If the death occurs in a hospital or care home, the staff will support you and explain what happens next, helping to guide you through the process.

Once everything has been confirmed, you may wish to contact a funeral director. They can bring your loved one into their care and gently guide you through the next steps, at a pace that feels right for you.

At Port Talbot Funeral Service, we provide a 24 hour personal service and are here to offer support, guidance and reassurance whenever you may need it.

If you are unsure about anything, even in the smallest way, you are always welcome to reach out to us.

A huge thank you to Jordan’s Waste & Clearance for coming back to remove the final rolls of AstroTurf from the churchyard.

This has been a significant job, and their support has made a real difference in helping us move things forward.

We’re now beginning to make progress inside the church itself, as we prepare the space for memorial services and quiet reflection.

We’re incredibly grateful for the kind words and ongoing support from the local community as we continue this work.
