Today marks the first anniversary of our Family Funeral Home, and we are deeply grateful for the privilege of supporting families within our local community during their most difficult moments.

Portadown Cares – Christmas Hamper & Toy Appeal 2025

Portadown Cares is urgently seeking donations for our annual Christmas Hamper and Toy Appeal, which supports local families, pensioners, and individuals who are struggling at this time of year. Every single item donated and every pound raised stays right here in our community, helping those most in need.

You can leave donations of non-perishable food items into our shop in High Street Mall during opening hours.

We also have our Giving Tree in the shop — if you would like to help a local child directly, you can take a tag with their first name and age, purchase a gift, and return it unwrapped (or wrapped with the tag attached).

If you would like to sponsor a Christmas Hamper, the costs this year are:
• £35 – Pensioner Hamper
• £45 – Standard Family Hamper
• £55 – Large Family Hamper

Support from local businesses is hugely appreciated — whether through financial donations or by providing products that can go directly into the hampers. Everything we purchase is bought locally, and everything we distribute is delivered to local families.

Portadown Cares is a small, grassroots charity. We rely entirely on the proceeds from our charity shop and the generosity of the people of Portadown to make this appeal possible every year. Your kindness truly allows us to reach those who need help the most.

The majority of our hamper and toy nominations come from professionals such as social workers, health visitors, schools, and partner agencies. Anyone self-referring or referring a family member is required to provide a supporting letter from a teacher, GP, or other professional for their application to be considered. We take great care in ensuring that all donations are used responsibly and that hampers and toys reach those genuinely in need.

The Dash Poem

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the date on the headstone
From the beginning to the end

He noted that first came the date of their birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years

For that dash represents allthe time
That they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash
What matters most is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

Devoted wife of the late Joe, dear mummy of Anne and the late Irene and Audrey, loving Nana of Kathryn, Matthew and Tom.

A Service of Thanksgiving on Saturday 15th November at 12 noon in St. Paul's Parish Church, Tartaraghan, followed by burial in adjoining Churchyard.

Family flowers only.

Lovingly remembered by her sorrowing daughter and the entire family circle.

To those that have recieved results this month, this is for you. At 16 I had no clue that I would be part of Davidson Funeral Services I took many paths before arriving here. There is no set age to knowing what you want to be in life.

Whether you’re over the moon or feeling a little deflated, please remember this: your grades do not define you. They are a chapter in your story, not the whole book.

Success looks different for everyone, and there are so many paths to building a meaningful, fulfilling career. Some of the most passionate, successful people didn’t follow the “traditional” route – they found their way by staying true to themselves.

Keep going. Stay curious. Be open to the unexpected. And above all, trust that one day you’ll find a role that lights a fire in you – where your passion and purpose meet.
