The NI childhood immunisation schedule has changed, it now provides more protection from illness with the introduction of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.

Eligible children will be offered a combined vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) as part of the routine infant vaccination schedule.

As with other childhood immunisations, parents will be contacted by their GP surgery to arrange an appointment if their child is eligible. If you are unsure if your child is up to date with vaccinations, the easiest way to check is to look at your child’s red book or speak to your health visitor or GP.

Pharmacy First for Emergency Hormonal Contraception (the morning after pill)

If you are aged 13 or older, you can now get the morning after pill free from community pharmacies across Northern Ireland.

When using this service, you will receive a private and confidential consultation with the pharmacist without the need to make an appointment. The pharmacist will provide sexual health advice which includes the risks of getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and how to obtain free tests if needed.

As well as providing free emergency contraception, the pharmacist will give you advice about regular methods of contraception. They may also give you a free three months’ supply of the contraceptive pill.

Pharmacy First Service for the management of Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

in women aged 16 to 64 years and are not pregnant or breastfeeding❌

Speak to your pharmacist for advice and treatment if you have any of the following symptoms:
- pain or a burning sensation when p*eing (dysuria)
- needing to p*e more often than usual
- needing to p*e more often than usual during the night (nocturia)
- needing to p*e suddenly or more urgently than usual
- p*e that looks cloudy
- blood in your p*e
- lower tummy pain or pain in your back, just under the ribs
- a high temperature, or feeling hot or cold, and shivery
- a very low temperature below 36°C
- feeling tired or weak
