I have been a qualified reflexologist for over 20 years with the Association of Reflexologists and have further studied maternity reflexology and vertical reflexology for different conditions. I am also a reiki healer, counsellor and life/stress management coach of which I combine when neccessary for the benefits of my client.
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique applied to the feet or hands where all the internal body structures and organs are mapped or mirrored in miniature. It is a simple non-invasive treatment, which helps the body to maintain a delicate balance between all the parts of the body’s glands, organs and structures to keep us in a state of good health.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Energy zones run throughout your body with reflex areas in the feet corresponding to all of your glands, organs, structures. When the energy flow is blocked through one or more of these zones then the body may not function properly which may result in an illness. When I am treating a reflex point, the main aim is to enhance the energy flow and encourage the body to heal itself. I will also encourage the breakdown of crystals which are waste products that build up in the body when the metabolism is not working to plan- these are found at reflex points which when treated will be encouraged to breakdown and release the energy flow through the zones.
Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.
HOW CAN REFLEXOLOGY HELP YOU?
The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.
1. Reflexology relieves stress and tension.
2. It improves nerve function and blood supply
3. It strengthens the immune system and restores and maintains a healthy balance in mind and body.
Through using a holistic approach to treatment, I will work with you to try and determine the 'root cause' of any problems - therefore treating the whole person, not just their symptoms.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM REFLEXOLOGY?
Most people of most ages can benefit from the treatment since it brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions such as stress related conditions, and sports injuries.
Examples are as follows:
Stress Arthritis
Asthma Menopause
Irritable Bowel Syndrome PMT
Back pain Diabetes mellitus
Migraine Skin Disorders
It is also widely used as a preventative therapy.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?
On your first visit there is an initial consultation to discuss factors such as past medical history, diet and lifestyle, emotional and physical issues in order to get to know you better and to ascertain your body's needs. I will then begin to work on your feet, or hands if necessary, noting problem areas. There may be discomfort in some places, but it is fleeting, and is an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body. For the most part, the sensation is pleasant and soothing. Reflexology will relax you while stimulating the body's own healing mechanisms. The majority of clients find reflexology extremely relaxing and often fall asleep!
HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST?
Usually a treatment session lasts for about one hour. A course of treatment will vary in length depending on your body's needs. This will be discussed with you at the first session. Generally, it is usually advisable to have a course of 6 treatments to balance the body and provide maximum benefit. After six to eight treatments waste deposits would have been broken down and the energy flow should be allowing the body to heal it and the systems to be working in unison. Many client’s like to maintain a treatment on a monthly basis after the initial course to ensure this balanced state is maintained as preventative mechanism
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?
Individuals respond to treatment in different ways; there may be a feeling of energy
and well balance or you may feel tired and emotional for a day or so.
Any reaction is beneficial as it shows that your body is responding to treatment and
indicates that the healing process has begun.
After a treatment it is advisable to:
Drink lots of water to flush toxins from the body,
Avoid any unnecessary stimulants such as alcohol or caffeine,
Eat a very light meal and above all allow your body to relax
