Today is šŸŒ World Kidney Day, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of our kidneys and the steps we can all take to protect them.

This year, we’re focusing on challenging the myths around kidney disease and highlighting why kidneys truly matter.

🩺 Why are kidneys so important?
Our kidneys work tirelessly behind the scenes to:
- Remove toxins and waste from the blood
- Balance fluids and minerals
- Help control blood pressure
- Support healthy bones
- Produce hormones that keep the body functioning well

Because kidney disease often develops silently, many people don’t realise there’s a problem until it’s advanced. That’s why awareness and early checks are so important.

🌟 Today is Young Carers Action Day! 🌟

This year’s theme is ā€˜Fair Futures for Young Carers’ — a powerful reminder that every young carer deserves the same opportunities to learn, grow and thrive as their peers. Too often, their incredible dedication comes with challenges that go unseen.

Young carers balance school, friendships, and their own wellbeing while providing vital care for someone they love. With the right recognition, support and opportunities, they can reach their full potential.

Look out for a letter from Avon Breast Screening NHS with an appointment to attend their mobile breast screening unit which is currently in the car park at Gordano Services. If you have missed an appointment or need to rearrange please call 0117 414 7070.

Avon Breast Screening NHS offers breast screening mammograms to eligible women aged 50 - 70 once every 3 years. If you are over 70 and have not been screened for over 3 years you can request an appointment.

A mammogram is an X-ray examination of the breasts and is a method of finding breast cancer at a very early stage.

On International Women’s Day, we would like to recognise and celebrate the women who lead and support our practice every day.

As a female-led practice, women play a central role in every part of our team – from our GPs and nursing staff to our reception and administrative colleagues. Their expertise, commitment and compassion ensure that our patients receive high-quality care and support.

Healthcare has long been shaped by the dedication of women, and we are proud to reflect that within our own team. Today is an opportunity to acknowledge the professionalism, resilience and contribution of women in healthcare and across our wider community.

Thank you to the women in our practice and to women everywhere who continue to make a difference every day.

We’ve had a fantastic time at the Spring into Wellbeing event today! 🌸

Our team loved chatting with so many of you about your health and wellbeing. It was great to see people stopping by our stand to take part in our salt quiz, and to get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked.

Thank you to everyone who came over for a chat and took part, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Events like this are a great reminder of how small steps can make a big difference to our health. šŸ’™

Today is World Obesity Day, a moment to recognise the growing impact of childhood obesity and the importance of addressing it with empathy, understanding, and evidence‑based support.

Childhood obesity is shaped by many influences — genetics, environment, nutrition, mental wellbeing, sleep, physical activity, and access to healthy choices. It is never about blame. It is about giving children and families the tools, support, and environments they need to thrive.

Here are some things that can help:
- Increase exercise – think about joining a club or team
- Get out for walks with your family to increase your steps
- Choose snacks such as fruit and raw vegetables instead of processed foods
- Control portions at meal times
- Aim for five portions of fruit and vegetables per day

Today is Rare Disease Day.

As a GP practice, we recognise that rare diseases, whilst individually uncommon, collectively affect a significant number of people across the UK. For many patients and families, the path to diagnosis can be prolonged and challenging, often involving multiple consultations and considerable uncertainty.

We understand the importance of listening carefully to concerns, taking symptoms seriously, and working collaboratively with specialist services to support timely investigation and appropriate onward referral.

Rare Disease Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and acknowledge the resilience of those living with rare conditions.

We would like to make patients aware of a new neighbourhood health survey being delivered on behalf of NHS England as part of the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme.

The survey is designed to understand how well health and care services are working together locally, particularly for people living with long-term conditions and those at higher risk of frailty or hospital admission. It looks at areas such as current health and wellbeing, confidence in managing health, and how well services are joined up.

The survey is being carried out by Ipsos UK on behalf of NHS England.

Some patients may be invited to take part. Participation is voluntary, and anyone who is eligible will be given the opportunity to opt out before their contact details are shared with Ipsos.
