We’re running another one of our Saturday COVID clinics this morning 😊

A huge thanks to all of our brilliant volunteers helping out today!

There’s a bit of a queue at the moment, but the sun’s shining and we’re getting through everyone as quickly as we can.

Thanks so much for your patience 💙

We're now offering nature-based drop-in groups as part of our bereavement support for anyone who’s lost a loved one from an incurable illness.

Spending time in nature can help reduce stress, invite quiet reflection and provide a safe space to hold the complex feelings that often accompany grief 💙

Groups are held outdoors and are a welcoming environment for anyone who might find comfort in nature connection while navigating a loss.

Where? Ham Green House in Pill (Penny Brohn Centre)

When? 23 June, 21 July, 25 August from 1-2.30pm

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, and Bowel Cancer Awareness Month aims to increase awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and knowing the symptoms, which you can find here: https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/symptoms/

These symptoms don’t mean you definitely have bowel cancer, but it’s important to check. The earlier bowel cancer is spotted, the more treatable it is, and the more likely it can be cured.

If you have been invited for bowel cancer screening, we would strongly encourage you to take part.

Blood Pressure Awareness

High blood pressure (hypertension) often has no symptoms, which is why it is sometimes referred to as a “silent” condition. Left untreated, it can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke.

If you are over 40 or it has been some time since your last check, we would encourage you to have your blood pressure measured. We have a blood pressure machine in our waiting area which you are welcome to pop in and use at any time.

One of the ParkPlay leaders is stepping down from the role so they are looking for volunteers who could provide a bit of support and help for the sessions. It doesn’t have to be every week, and individuals do not have to lead whole sessions, they can just help set up games, etc.

⚠❗Unfortunately, one of our amazing Play Leaders has made the difficult decision to step down.

For Portishead ParkPlay to continue running, we urgently need new Play Leaders and volunteers to step in and help out. Whether you can lead sessions or simply lend a hand, your support would make a huge difference to keeping this community going.

It’s a fantastic way to meet people, stay active, and give back locally — no experience necessary, just enthusiasm!

If you’re interested or would like to find out more, please get in touch or speak to one of the team at the next session. Or join one of our information sessions below 👇

Let’s keep ParkPlay going 💚

Hay fever season is beginning 🌼

If you usually experience symptoms at this time of year, it is best to start treatment early rather than waiting for symptoms to worsen. Antihistamines, nasal sprays, and eye drops are all available from your local pharmacy without a prescription.

Simple measures such as keeping windows closed during high pollen days and showering after being outdoors can also help.

If your symptoms are severe, persistent, or not improving with over-the-counter treatment, please contact the practice for further advice.

Today is Purple Day, a global movement dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy and supporting the millions of people and families affected by it.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, yet it’s still surrounded by misunderstanding and stigma. Purple Day is about changing that, through education, empathy, and open conversation.

On this day, we recognise:
- The children, young people, and adults living with epilepsy
- The families and carers who support them
- The importance of reducing stigma and challenging myths
- The need for better understanding of seizure types, triggers, and safety
- The value of community support in helping people feel seen and included

Let’s keep the conversation going, not just today but every day. 💜
