🧘🏼‍♂️ MYTH: YOU NEED HIGH INTENSITY AND PUNISHMENT TO GET DEFINITION 💪🏼

I beg to bloody differ.

A lot of people think visible abs only come from high-intensity training or hours of cardio. But your core doesn’t actually need impact or exhaustion to develop strength.
Wait what? 😱
Don’t get me wrong, biological factors genetics and all that s**t are a factor but here’s my regime as a regular gal:

I do yoga (a lot)
I do fire & form (our functional movement class)
I drink wine
I love carbs

Movement classes taught the right way can build that definition if done correctly and here’s the crazy part you don’t have to kill yourself to achieve it.

My focus is always functional movement. I’d rather do 5 reps well than 50 with poor form.

Here’s my seven pence worth:

Slower, controlled movements activate your deep core muscles (like the TA), building functional strength - not just burn which is why this will always win out for me over high intensity.

Your breath supports your entire core system. When you move with diaphragmatic breathing, you improve stability, control, and results.

You don’t need heavy weights. You simply need to gradually challenge your stability with planks, balances, slow transitions, and work those mindful holds (enter yoga)

When you’re not stressed or overtraining, your body reduces inflammation and recovers better.

Visible muscle shows up when your body feels nourished and safe and not depleted. Make sure you hit those basic needs - enough sleep, enough water and eat right where you can (wine is one of my five a day 😂)

You can build strong, defined abs through mindful movement, not burnout.
Your core thrives on intention, not intensity.

✨ ETHEREAL FLOATING ✨

Friday’s sound bath felt otherworldly. The energy in the room was so soft yet so strong. It was like everyone was floating in the same current of stillness.
The more I host sound baths the more intuitive the practice feels. It’s not something one can ‘blag’ but I do argue that anyone can learn this skill with a bit of focus and intention - like anything :-)

Fridays Halloween sound bath carried the quiet energy of Samhain - a time of transition and reflection as the seasons turn. The sound seemed to move through the space with a sense of release and renewal, inviting stillness and rest, supported by a candlelight meditation and warming glow nidra. It was a powerful way to mark the shift into the darker months ahead. Many people had fascinating experiences, but as always, these are held in quiet respect to honour the privacy and sacredness of what unfolds within the session.

Every sound bath has its own rhythm, its own story, and Friday’s felt ethereal - a reminder of how sound can reach places words can’t. We always allow time after for decompression and of course snacks :-) Thank you to everyone who came and shared.

🧘🏼 📚 YOGA, B***S AND BOOKS 📚 🧘🏼

Saturday yoga is definitely my decompress x

Wonderful practice this morning with a full class where we worked on some funky transitions, active hinging and feel good sequences - def an uplifting one today :-)
Then it’s off for coffee .beehive.portland where their amazing staff are so friendly and always have a table for us x Ellis and Jamie you are all wonderful - G really appreciated her extra cappuccino sprinkles!

Then it’s time for a gossip. We talked sports bras (more from them soon!), b***s and then books. Seems we have started a little book club by accident. This is what we are all about. Yes we do yoga classes and it’s all about feeling good in the body and clearing out those cobwebs but yoga can also be found in our little community where we chat, laugh, put the world to rights and continue our weekend feeling lighter and a little happier x

So many of my lovely students have been asking me for a yin class so tonight we are doing just that.

Tonight’s relaxing yoga will be yin.

Soft, nurturing and playing with our edge in longer holds with a soft breath focus to enable the nervous system to relax and allow for deeper range of motion. This is deeply nourishing for the joints and fascia, helps improve flexibility and helps with emotional release and resilience.
You’re likely to sleep better too 😉

🙌🏼☀️ FREE KIDS YOGA & MIGHTY MOVERS THIS BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ☀️🙌🏼

What are you up to this Saturday!??
From 1.30pm we are offering yoga and mighty movement in the sunshine for all your little ones!

And what’s more….its completely FREE!!!

At Osprey Green by Portland castle, from 1.30pm vic from sìdà yoga will take your little ones on a magical adventure followed by yoga themed party games to entertain the whole family. This session is aimed at kids from 4-6 years old.

Conor from Gym geek will take the reins at 2.30pm for the 7-11 year olds with their mighty mover program that puts the fun into fitness as well as helping to build confidence through movement.

At Gym geek and Sìdà yoga we don’t believe for a second you are too young to start fitness with flare, attitude and most of all fun!

So come and join us!*
No need to book! Just bring your lovely selves and maybe a yoga mat if you need but both classes can be done without!

💋 CHEATING ON YOUR YOGA TEACHER 💋 👀

If I had a £1 for every time a student said to me ‘oh I’m so sorry vic I tried another yoga class I hope you’re not mad’…I’d be…. Well not rich but certainly be able to enter the omaze draw enough times to up my odds.

Firstly… any teacher worth their salt ENCOURAGES this. I’ve done it and myself and my team are constantly doing it. I do it for myself because in truth sometimes it’s nice to just be taught by someone else for a change and I do it professionally with my team so we can constantly be aware of the market and what works well and what doesn’t, so we can ultimately provide you with the best classes available. And let’s not forget, I’ve made no secret of the fact I’m looking for incredible yoga talent constantly to join our ever growing Sìdà yoga team, so I too need to see what else is out there.

Loyalty is always valued and appreciated but don’t let this get in the way of you trying new experiences and new instructors.

My only caveat to this is when you are ‘shopping around’, make sure you immerse yourself fully in the experience. Your instructor doesn’t need to know you ‘go somewhere else’ as this immediately can feel like you’re comparing. And remember you are there in the space that instructor is holding for YOU in that moment.
Instead, go with an open mind, enjoy the space and allow yourself to grow and learn through your experience that should be your own personal journey with yoga… you should never be worried if you p**s off your regular instructor by looking what else is out there x However, do me a favour… do make sure you are getting the best out there by seeking out qualified, insured, instructors with extensive experience. If I had ANOTHER £1 for how many times students come back to me telling me how this seems to be a rarity would mean I wouldn’t need to enter the omaze draw as I’d own a similar abode 😂
