What is Generational Trauma? 💭

Generational trauma is trauma that extends from one generation to the next. It begins when a group experiences a traumatic event that causes economic, cultural, and familial distress. In response, people belonging to that group develop physical or psychological symptoms.

My practise involves forming a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship with my clients in a safe environment. I believe in working at a pace which is best suited to each individuals needs and helping facilitate guidance through any issues or concerns which are raised. I welcome all thoughts and feelings throughout the sessions and believe that clients know themselves better than I ever will. That is why I want to empower them to heal themselves, whilst I sit with any suffering they may share and encourage clients to contribute to their own growth. 🌱

Feeling pressured to have another baby? Not sure when to have another or even to have another at all? What about age gaps? Feeling guilty for only wanting one child? There are so many pressures and routes to navigate regarding your families future.

Todays post-natal support group has a theme of ‘family future’, this was suggested by one of the mums who attends the group.

As a mother of two, she said: ‘What about…. Family future. Got me thinking about how someone I know is trying to decide on whether to have another and when. There are all sorts of pressures to perhaps have another and it can be really hard to work it out. If you only have one then you can feel guilty for not providing a sibling.’

There can be many external pressures when deciding whether to extend your family or not, this can come from friends, family members and even romantic partners. We’ll be exploring common reasons why couples disagree about whether to have more children and also how to respond to parenting criticism. 💭
