Introducing Next Gen Role Model Jim Roberson šŸˆ

Jim Roberson’s journey is a powerful example of how education can transform lives, open doors, and create lasting opportunity. Born in New York, Jim’s early experiences as a young athlete, including becoming the first African American student at Bronxville High School, shaped his belief that education is the foundation for ambition, resilience, and success. These formative years continue to inform his work, grounding his approach in lived experience, empathy, and an unwavering belief in young people.

Highly respected across the education sector, Jim has built a reputation as a thought leader and changemaker whose work has had a profound impact on the lives of countless young people. Drawing on practical experience as an Assistant Headteacher alongside years of coaching American football, he delivers training that is thought-provoking, relevant, and deeply sincere. His style cuts through theory, connecting with young people and professionals alike in a way that is honest, motivating, and transformative.

At the heart of Jim’s work is genuine care. He works alongside young people to help them recognise their worth, develop discipline and self-belief, and achieve what they are truly capable of. As a Next Gen Role Model, Jim brings decades of experience in education, mentoring, and youth development. Through his passion and credibility, he plays a vital role in supporting Next Gen’s mission to create opportunity, inspire ambition, and help young people realise their full potential. šŸ¤

Jake & Keshia were back at Fair Ways Schools delivering our Digital Footprint workshops, sharing their own lived experiences and helping students understand how to avoid the path of chaosšŸ“±

The sessions focused on encouraging young people to be mindful of their online presence, while exploring the real impact that online abuse and blackmail can have on a student’s mental health and wellbeing.

Thank you to for funding these important conversations and supporting safer, more informed futures for young people.

Introducing Role Model Luke Delahunty šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ .delahunty

Luke Delahunty is a double Invictus Games athlete and former RAF Regiment Gunner whose journey is rooted in resilience, determination, and the power of reframing adversity. After serving eight years in the Royal Air Force as a Senior Aircraftman, Luke’s life changed dramatically following a motorbike accident in 1996 that left him paralysed from the chest down.

Rather than allowing this moment to define his limits, Luke found new purpose through sport. He went on to specialise in rowing and hand-cycling, competing at the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017 and again in 2017. His achievements stand as a powerful testament to strength, adaptability, and the mindset required to keep moving forward when life takes an unexpected turn.

As a role model, Luke brings lived experience into every space he enters. His story challenges young people to rethink what is possible, even in the face of significant setbacks, and encourages them to approach life with courage, discipline, and self-belief.

Luke’s presence shows young people that setbacks do not define futures. Through honesty, leadership, and example, he inspires others to raise their aspirations, make informed choices, and understand that strength is not the absence of struggle, but the decision to keep going.🌟

Role Model Kosh back at Springfield delivering our anti-racism sessions to Year 11šŸ« Can you believe we’ve already reached over 350 young people this year?

January has been an incredible month of powerful conversations, learning, and reflection. We’re so proud to see young people engaging, challenging ideas, and taking steps to create a more inclusive future. šŸ’Ŗ

The work continues.... here’s to inspiring even more change in the months ahead!

Many of us at Next Gen are here because, at some point, an educator saw us often before we fully saw ourselves. Teachers who showed up with care, belief and consistency, even when life outside the classroom felt anything but stable.

Keshia’s journey is a powerful reminder of why Next Gen exists. Many moons ago, she was a student at St Luke’s Secondary, where her drama teacher Victoria Adams and English teacher Trina Treharne became true role models, supporting and believing in her, even during some of the most challenging moments of her life.

After time out of school and a disrupted journey that included a period at King Richard’s in Paulsgrove, Keshia was also fortunate to be guided by the legendary Jim Roberson, another educator who showed up with dedication and belief when it mattered most.

Fast forward to this week, and this moment feels truly full circle. Getting to stand alongside, thank and now work with these incredible educators through Next Gen is beyond words. This is what happens when young people are met with compassion, patience and care. It changes lives.

This is why we do what we do. For the young people navigating complex journeys today, and for the educators who never stop showing up for the next generation šŸ†āœØ

A big day across Fairways Schools on MondayšŸ“± .ways

Keshia and Ricky visited 3 of the 4 Fairways schools in one day, delivering our Digital Footprint sessions, focused on empowering young people to take back control of their online presence and make informed choices in the digital world.

It was a fantastic day with huge impact. One young person shared at the end of the session: ā€œIt was so great to be able to talk as part of a group. It’s really helped my confidence.ā€

This is why these conversations matter. Thank you to the OPCC for funding such vital topics šŸ™
