Meet 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗲, one of our R&D Specialists. Joined Harwin in 2019 as a Level 2 apprentice, Harrison has progressed through to completing his Bachelor’s degree and Level 6 EPA, gaining hands-on experience as a machine build and commissioning engineer, and more recently exploring software-focused projects within R&D.

Along the way, he’s built expertise across mechanical, electrical, and automation disciplines, while also developing confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills through real projects with real responsibility.

Sharing the apprenticeship programme has allowed him to shape his own path, take ownership of challenges, and grow not just as an engineer, but as an individual.

Meet 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘆, one of our EDM Specialists. Since joining Harwin in 2019 on a Level 3 apprenticeship, Preston has developed not just his technical expertise, but also the life skills that have shaped his career.

During his apprenticeship, Preston moved into the EDM department, where he learned new skills to meet the demands of the role and adapt to a fast-paced working environment. After completing his apprenticeship, he went on to achieve his HNC and HND, deepening his technical knowledge and building confidence in applying what he’d learned in the workplace.

He’s now completing a Postgraduate Diploma alongside a Level 7 Apprenticeship in Engineering Competence, developing valuable skills such as responsibility, communication, and leadership. Whilst also taking on greater responsibility within the department, begun managing people, and continued to grow in confidence, problem-solving, and adaptability.

We were pleased to welcome a delegation of Swiss apprentices to Harwin as part of an immersive learning programme organised by HSDC.

During their time in the UK, they are exploring different approaches to technical education and industry. A highlight of their programme is visiting a British industry, and we were proud to showcase our manufacturing facility, our people, and the vital role apprenticeships play in developing skills for life.
