Today we spent the day at Whiteley Shopping Centre alongside NIHR, sharing information, resources, and plenty of goodies!

It was a fantastic turnout - over 250 visitors stopped by our gazebo to learn more about mental health research and how to get involved. We loved meeting so many people, answering questions, and sparking conversations about the importance of mental health research.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part, and helped make the day such a success! 💚

🌍 World Mental Health Day 2025

Today, on , we’re reminded how vital it is to look after our mental health - especially during times of crisis and uncertainty. 💚

At the Academy, we’re proud to be involved in a range of studies focused on improving mental health care and access to support.

One of these is the FReSH START study, launched in 2024, exploring more compassionate and effective ways to support people who self-harm. Working with people with lived experience and therapists, the study takes a person-centred approach - recognising that self-harm means different things to different people.

The study ran at Princess Anne Hospital (UHS) and Queen Alexandra Hospital (Portsmouth), recruiting 11 participants (surpassing our target of 10) and achieving the highest screening rates across the trial between March and April 2024.

Now in its follow-up phase, FReSH START continues to shape more understanding, compassionate care - helping build a future where everyone can access the support they deserve. 💬
