Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025, and this year’s theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress” reflects what we strive for every day at Cambian Hill House School.

This year’s theme echoes the work happening in our homes, classrooms, and conversations every single day.

On this day, we want to highlight how Hill House is creating has created a place where every individual is heard, valued, and empowered to make their own choices. Hill House has made this accessible by ensuring every young person has the tools, support, and opportunities they need to communicate and take an active role in their own lives.

Championing Voice & Choice through:

• Smartbox AAC devices (Talk Pads)
• Positive communication approaches
• Zones of Regulation
• Daily check-ins
• Teaching consent and personal boundaries
• Involving young people in their reviews
• Home chats to stay connected with families
• Encouraging everyday decision-making
• Sixth Form pathways that build independence

By empowering our students to express themselves and make choices that matter to them, Hill House helps nurture confident young people who are leading the way toward a more inclusive future.

As winter settles in and temperatures drop, students at Cambian Northampton School have stepped up in the most heart-warming way.

Inspired by compassion and community spirit, our young people have been collecting warm coats to help anyone facing the cold – whether they’re homeless, vulnerable, or simply in need of a little extra support this season. These coats are being hung in local park, free for anyone who needs them.

Together, small acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.

When one of our young people first joined Cambian Whinfell School as a residential student, he arrived feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and unsure about what the future might hold. At first he struggled to leave his bedroom, school felt like an impossible challenge and believing in himself felt even harder.

At Whinfell we believe in connections before corrections. Our dedicated team takes the time to truly understand each young person, helping them move forward at their own pace.

Step by step, with encouragement and care, he started to believe in himself and see just how bright his future could be. He felt safe and secure at Whinfell and as a result began to enjoy his learning and went on to earn all of his GCSE’S.

Michelle Turner, Head of Education at Whinfell School, shares his remarkable journey a story that reminds us why we do what we do every single day.

Whinfell School has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted for 5 consecutive inspections! To learn more about the exceptional care and education provided by Whinfell click here: https://bit.ly/3TqFVnh

About Cambian

Cambian is one of the largest providers of specialist education and behavioural health services for children in the UK. Our services have a specific focus on individuals who present with high severity needs.

We provide a broad range of specialist services across England and Wales. These services include specialist education schools and colleges for both day and residential learners, residential care homes and a therapeutic fostering service.

Our specialist education schools and colleges support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS), moderate to severe learning disabilities, associated challenging behaviours and complex needs.

Our specialist residential care homes support children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated complex needs. We provide care, therapy and education for a discrete cohort of needs within these homes; this includes provisions for children who have experienced Complex Trauma (neglect and abuse), those who have been sexually exploited, and those with a learning disability. These homes are all supported by specialists schools to support their individual educational needs.
