Young Carers Offer - now delivered by Hertfordshire County Council

From 1 April 2026, Hertfordshire County Council is proud to be delivering young carers support in-house, bringing this vital service fully within council provision as the contract with Carers in Hertfordshire came to an end.

This change strengthens our commitment to young carers by embedding support directly into council services, helping us work even more closely with children, families and partners across Hertfordshire.

Support for adult carers will continue to be delivered by Carers in Hertfordshire, with no change to that service.

A new Young Carers webpage has been developed in collaboration with young carers and their families and includes information about the support available, team contact details, and ‘a Day in the Life of’ form to register a young carer online so that they can get the support they need.

Hertfordshire County Council has contacted all registered young carers directly to welcome them, provide updated contact information, details on how to access support, and a link to the new webpage.

A Young Carers webinar is scheduled for Thursday 23rd April, 11:30am-12:30pm, offering partner professionals a briefing on the new model, the tools available, and the steps involved in the registration process.

A New Way to Contact the Practice - GOING LIVE 6th May 2026

We are excited to announce we will be introducing a new Clinician Led Assessment Service going LIVE on the 6th May 2026.

The Clinician Led Assessment Service is for all patient requests. This means every request is reviewed first by our clinical team, allowing us to prioritise based on clinical need and guide patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional or service.

All requests (medical or administrative) will need to be submitted via a form available on the website or the NHS App. We’ll review your request on the same day and aim to respond within 24 hours. We will prioritise requests based on urgency.

If you have a clinical concern which you feel is 'urgent on-the-day,' kindly submit your online request before 10:00 and please be prepared to attend the surgery at short notice on that day.

However, we request all queries to be submitted before 16:00, so they can be safely managed in a timely and safe way.

If you can't complete a form online, you can still call the surgery and submit your request with the receptionist. Once details are captured over the phone, these requests are logged and handled in the same way, ensuring greater equity of access.

Patients are also now able to access a local pharmacy for treatment of seven (7) conditions by attending or contacting the pharmacy or by referral from your GP, practice, urgent and emergency care settings and NHS 111 (online and via telephone).

How your local Pharmacy can help you
Going to your local pharmacy offers an easy and convenient way to get clinical advice on minor health concerns, and now community pharmacies can offer treatment for seven common conditions without patients needing to see a GP, as part of a major transformation in the way the NHS delivers care.

Highly trained pharmacists at more than nine in ten pharmacies can now assess and treat patients for earache, impetigo, infected insect bites, shingles, sinusitis, sore throat, urinary tract infections (UTIs) for women aged 16-64 - without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.

Community pharmacy teams are highly-skilled, qualified health professionals who have the right clinical training to give people the health advice they need. Patients don't need an appointment and private consultation rooms are available. Pharmacy teams can also signpost to other relevant local services where necessary.

Don't wait for minor health concerns to get worse – think Pharmacy first and get seen by your local pharmacy team.
