Feeling trapped by day to day life.

Getting away from it all, & taking time to be you, & having You time, is sometimes exactly what you need,

My life can get really busy running a business, kids, house jobs etc

I have found, I am a better human when I have a bit of timeout and have a change of scenery. It helps me to recharge my batteries, reset, forget about the to do list and let's me just be Lynsey. Giving myself time to just be me, try new things and have fun

I don't know who needs to hear this?

Perimenopause, HRT & Me.......

Before I start, this is about my journey and in no way am I trying convince you to do the same or advocating for HRT. What I am advocating for is, for you to get all the information to make an informed decision that is right for you and your body.

I went to the Dr's last year, a month before I turned 45. I was low, tearful, my joints and muscles ached, I was getting more and more migraines, I had dizziness and felt light headed, sinusitis and just couldn't be bothered.

Having your own business and working by yourself, you don't have anyone to jeer you up, when you feel like cr@p. I had to act quick or risk losing the business I worked so hard to build.

I researched as much as I could, bought Dr Louise Newsome's book (menopause expert), to arm myself for when I went to my Dr's appointment, as I heard getting HRT could be a real battle. I asked to have an appointment with a Dr who had undertaken a Menopause course.

I was one of the lucky ones, my Dr was a real advocate for menopause and HRT. She didn't make me have a blood test (which are not always accurate anyway), she didn't try and find another reason for my symptoms, she gave me HRT straight away. I have estrogen patches and progesterone tabs.

After a couple of days, I was dancing around the kitchen high as a kite, the highs soon began to level themselves out and I started to feel like me again. I still get some symptoms but not as severe or as often.

There are other things that can really help to control symptoms-
Exercise
Breathe work
Resistance and weight training
Lowering alcohol intake.
Changing some aspects of our diet.

Again, I feel so lucky that I have the job I do as this has had a massive positive impact on my general wellbeing and mental health and I'm really grateful for that.

Get all the information you need as Knowledge really is Power. It's also really empowering taking control of what you and your body need.

Today is international drug awareness day!

I would like to talk about a different kind of drug addiction....

Cortisol.

Cortisol addiction can happen when we find ourselves in constant stressful situations e.g stressful job, abusive relationships, stressful family situation etc.

In the last few months I have come to realise, I am a Cortisol addict, from my previous relationship.

It's is a very complex issue, but here is a brief explanation.

Some of the signs of Cortisol addiction are
Insomnia and Fatigue.
Headaches.
Digestive problems.
Anxiety and Depression.
Irritability and Mood swings.
Brain fog

You produce cortisol when your brain feels like it's in danger- the fight, flight or freeze response. If you are in a situation were for whatever reason, your brain feels like it is in danger over a long period of time, you produce cortisol and you become addicted to it.

You end up living in a constant state of fight, flight or freeze and your brain starts to look for that next hit. Chaos and pain become what feels good. Feelings of peace and feeling safe become a threat (as safe doesn't produce cortisol) and might even feel boring to you.

Barmy ey, who knew?

Pilates can really help. in Pilates by Lynsey's session we focus on the breathe, mindfulness, relaxation and somatic movement (releasing trapped emotion), aswell as being a full body workout focusing on strengthening and increasing mobility.

Pilates and my job has really helped me over the last few months and for me personally, I could not do without it.

If this subject has resonated with you please seek out further information.

CAN I BE HONEST WITH YOU FOR A MINUTE šŸ‘‡šŸ»šŸ‘‡šŸ»

I find DIY quite empowering these days. I don't really know what I am doing, But that doesn't matter. I now feel strong enough and confident enough, to try new things without worry of being criticised or being talked to negatively.

Just like when we start Pilates or any form of exercise, it's the act of doing something for ourselves, and embracing the challenge without worrying about the end result. Mistakes and failures are inevitable when trying something new. But one of the most important factors in being more confident, is giving these tasks a go, learn from our mistakes, correct it and complete it. Then we can take a step back with our heads held high and admire what we've achieved

So, I say just take the first step, as that's the most important and scary step there is. The rest is just learning, and that's ok. As I hung this door I thought I'd done it until I realised I put the hinges on back to front and had to pretty much start again and undo everything.

But this is learning......

This weekend I've bought a drill learnt how it works and hung a door. Learning makes us confident & I'm feeling great 😃

Last night's session with really helped me because ā¬‡ļøā¬‡ļø

Over the last few months, I have been doing lots of work on myself and have learnt lots about trauma and the body. Trapped Emotion in the body can come from from anything that has been traumatic to you, injury, abuse, bullying, grief, financial issues, anything really that may have had a negative impact on you.

Trapped Emotion can present in the body around the neck, jaw, shoulders, hips, pelvis. It can also impact breathing and in some case be the reason for many auto immune diseases or chronic pain.

Connecting to the body through Movement and the breathe can help you to release emotion away from the body. (Just like last night's session)
In pilates focusing on the breathe whilst moving with intention is a massive part of Pilates practice.
