Meet Charlie Hyland, our Patient Safety and Quality Lead here at Willowbrook Hospice 💙💚

Charlie plays a vital role in ensuring the care we provide is safe, effective, and always centred around our patients and their families. From leading patient safety improvements to promoting a culture of learning and openness, Charlie helps us learn from incidents, celebrate what works well, and continuously strive for excellence.

Charlie also supports patients and loved ones when concerns or complaints arise, making sure every voice is heard and the best possible outcomes are achieved. By working closely with staff and volunteers across the hospice, Charlie helps drive meaningful, sustainable improvements every day.

Patient safety, patient experience, and clinical effectiveness are at the heart of everything we do - and Charlie helps ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards of care.

✨ Thank You Thursday ✨

This week, we were delighted to welcome Emma from Time For Me By Emma T to our Cedarwood Centre. 🌿

Emma’s grandmother was an inpatient with us 10 years ago, and she wanted to repay the kindness her family received by giving something back in a very special way.

Emma generously offered complimentary massages to our staff, creating a calm and relaxing space in our treatment rooms where team members could take a well-deserved moment for themselves. Our staff were absolutely thrilled and thoroughly enjoyed their treatments ✨

We truly believe that wellbeing is vital for our staff, and this thoughtful gesture was a powerful reminder of the importance of care and compassion - not only for our patients and their families, but also for the dedicated team who provide specialist care every single day.

Thank you, Emma, for your kindness and for helping us look after those who care for others 💙💚

We’re excited to be opening a brand new Willowbrook Hospice shop in Huyton, and we’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our team 💚💙

📍 Unit 14, Cavendish Walk, Derby Road, Huyton, L36 9YG

Whether you have lots of time to give or just a few hours, volunteering with us is a great way to support local families while gaining new skills and confidence.

✨ We need help with:
• Sorting and steaming clothes
• Serving customers and running the till
• Keeping the shop looking its best
• No experience needed – full training provided!

In response to this article from the St Helens Star, Willowbrook Hospice is pleased to have been included in the recent grant award from the NHS.

Whilst the figure of £24k is helpful and appreciated, this money cannot be used for direct patient and family care and can only be used for upgrades to our buildings, facilities, and equipment.

It costs the hospice nearly £4.5 million a year to provide our critical services to patients, their families, and our wider community and so whilst the grant is welcome, it only represents around 0.5% of our annual costs.

This is why the amazing support of our supporters, partners and volunteers is so important if we are to continue to be able to provide outstanding services to the people of St Helens and Knowsley. 💙💚
