🚨 Increase in cases of vomiting and diarrhoea 🚨

Most people improve within 24–48 hours, but rest and hydration are key. πŸ’§πŸ˜΄
Take small, regular sips of water or an oral re-hydration solution, and please remember to stay home until you’ve been symptom-free for 48 hours to avoid sharing this β€œgift” with others! 🎁🚫

⚠️Seek medical advice by contacting your local pharmacy or submitting a Klinik form to us if symptoms last more than a couple of days, you can’t keep fluids down, or you’re worried about dehydration - especially in young children, older adults, or those with long-term conditions. Please avoid coming into the surgery unless requested to do so.

Take care of yourselves, keep your fluids up, and here’s to feeling better very soon πŸ’™

In addition to treating coughs, colds and the occasional mystery rash, we appear to have accidentally become an urgent treatment centre for abandoned belongings at our Risborough Surgery.

Currently admitted to our unofficial urgent treatment centre we have:

πŸ‘“ Glasses – all stable, but sadly unable to locate their owners.

πŸ’§ Water bottles – no signs of dehydration, but showing clear symptoms of being forgotten.

🧸 Teddies – missing cuddles, require urgent reunion with their tiny humans.

🧀 Gloves – some single, which is emotionally challenging at this time of year.

πŸ”‘ Keys – trying very hard not to panic about being locked out of their rightful home.

🦻 Hearing aid – doing its best to listen out for its owner.

πŸ‘’ Hats – both recovering after being left behind in dramatic fashion.

We also have a gymnastics medal, bib, headphones, teething toy, umbrella, single duck earring, baby cardigan, child's bracelet and a very sentimental "in memory of" laminated picture.

If any of these items belong to you, please pop into Reception to discharge them as soon as possible, because even the teddies are starting to ask how long the waiting time is!

πŸ“£ Please share far and wide πŸ“£

Self-Care Week 2025 🩺 Vitamin D: Especially Important in Winter!

As we head through the winter months, it becomes much harder for our bodies to make vitamin D from sunlight β€” which means supplements are more important than ever.

Here’s what you need to know πŸ‘‡

βœ… Why vitamin D matters
β€’ Supports strong bones and teeth
β€’ Helps your immune system work properly
β€’ May help with mood and muscle strength

β˜€οΈ From October to March, the sun in the UK isn’t strong enough for us to make vitamin D naturally. This means most of us should consider taking a daily supplement.

⚠️ Who is most at risk of low levels?
β€’ Adults aged 65+
β€’ Pregnant/breastfeeding people
β€’ Children under 5
β€’ People who spend little time outdoors
β€’ Those with darker skin or who cover their skin

⚠️ Take supplements safely
β€’ Don’t mix multiple vitamin D products (e.g. cod liver oil + another supplement).
β€’ Avoid high doses unless advised by a clinician.

Stay well this winter with this easy self-care tip! β„οΈπŸ’™

Self-Care Week 2025: Mind & Body πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Every day this week we will be posting tips to honour Self-Care Week and today we’re focusing on one of the most powerful tools for better health and wellbeing: good-quality sleep. πŸŒ™πŸ˜΄

A healthy sleep routine can help:
βœ”οΈ Boost mood
βœ”οΈ Improve concentration
βœ”οΈ Strengthen your immune system
βœ”οΈ Lower stress levels

Here are a few simple tips to improve your sleep:
πŸ› Keep a routine: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
πŸ“± Reduce screen time: Switch off devices at least an hour before bed.
β˜• Watch the caffeine: Avoid tea, coffee, and energy drinks in the afternoon and evening.
🚢 Stay active: Daily physical activity helps your body wind down naturally.
😌 Create a calm space: A dark, cool, quiet bedroom can make a big difference.

Let’s make sleep a priorityβ€”your body and mind will thank you!

Today, we pause with the nation for two minutes to remember and honour all those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

At Cross Keys, we observe this day of reflection and gratitude - remembering the courage, dedication, and resilience of the men and women of the Armed Forces, past and present.

We are especially proud to care for a number of veteran patients within our practice community, and we recognise the continued contributions and experiences they bring to us all.

❌ Myth: β€œThe flu jab gives you the flu.”
βœ… Fact: The flu vaccine can't give you the flu because it does not contain live viruses.

While it cannot cause the flu, you may experience mild side effects like a sore arm, slight temperature, or aching muscles for a couple of days. The nasal spray vaccine for children contains live but weakened viruses, which also cannot cause the flu.

It is possible to get the flu soon after being vaccinated if you were exposed to the virus before the vaccine had time to work, which takes about two weeks. As well as this, there's still a chance you might get flu after getting vaccinated, but it's likely to be milder and not last as long.
