On Friday we had our Halloween party here at Havendene and what a fantastic day! Our residents decorated pumpkins, dressed up, played Halloween bingo, pin the eye on the zombie, toss the ring to the spider and of course singing and dancing for our favourite activity.. Karaoke๐
We have found:-
โข Events provide structured opportunities for social interaction, helping residents build and strengthen friendships with peers, staff, and family members, which directly counters feelings of loneliness and isolation common among older adults.
โข Engaging in fun activities, sharing laughs, and feeling part of a vibrant community can significantly improve mood, reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and foster a more positive outlook on life.
โข Themed parties, holiday celebrations, and special events (like birthdays or anniversaries) help residents feel valued and included within the care home community. Being actively involved and having something to look forward to gives residents a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
โข Music, food, and themes at parties can trigger fond memories and provide opportunities for residents to share life stories, which is a powerful tool for reminiscence therapy and bonding.
โข Social events and the activities within them (such as quizzes, music, or reminiscing) help keep the mind sharp, stimulate memory, problem-solving skills, and cognitive function, which is especially important for those with dementia.
