We held our family meeting last week and invited everyone to have a chat with our management team and heads of departments. It’s a great opportunity to find out what we’ve been up to and speak to staff.
We had a wonderful evening looking at activities, food menus and chatting about life at Hutton Manor. We received some brilliant feedback which we appreciate greatly.
The dates for our next meetings will be advertised in the coming weeks.

Our weekly choir practice is growing in numbers! We even roped the staff in this week to join us in singing some of our best loved songs. Of course we had to have a Vera Lynn song, then some more traditional hymns such as lord of the dance. We finished on You are my sunshine, and the residents and staffs favourite, Somewhere over the rainbow 🌈 we may not all be musically talented but we get a 10/10 for effort!

We had a great start to the weekend with a visit from our resident therapy dog Stanley. He went from room to room visiting the residents. In the afternoon Gloria and Brenda helped with paperwork and organising next weeks news letter. While the rest of the residents did more rock painting to add to our growing collection. There was just enough time for a few last minute cuddles with Stanley before he went home 💙💛

At this weeks quiz things took a musical turn as we played name that tune! We picked songs from different decades and genres to really test the residents knowledge. From Tony Christie to black sabbath, Elvis to Take That, the residents proved they really know their stuff! All helped by Christine’s dance moves of course!
The final song was “you’ll never walk alone” as Head activities Emma is a Liverpool fan, but we are in Leeds after all so we had to play a song for Leeds Utd. Colin a life long Leeds fan shouted to get his Leeds blanket as he sang along with all staff and residents 💙💛

On Mondays it’s bingo at Hutton Manor! A weekly event that the residents really look forward to. Unfortunately our bingo machine is in need of repair but that didn’t stop our amazing activity team as we played picture and musical bingo instead. The residents then enjoyed a good sing along on 1st floor with the wonderful Joyce in fine voice!

Birthdays and baking at Hutton Manor!
On Thursday we made delicious cheesecakes with a crumbly biscuit base and a vanilla cheesecake topped with chocolate chips. A fun and easy dessert to make that the residents love. We also celebrated the birthdays of our wonderful residents Micheal and Barbara!

Today we held our monthly residential committee meeting. This is an opportunity for residents to put forward ideas for new activities, singers and musicians and discuss any events such as fairs and parties they would like to hold.
Today the residents came in force with lots of ideas for fun and exciting new activities. We discussed ideas for fundraising both for charities and the home as well as garden projects, veteran events and a big monthly activity! Not all our committee members stayed for our afternoon rock painting activity so are missing from the photos, but we’d like to thank all the residents for their contributions and support from the whole of the activity department 💙💛

No blue Monday at Hutton Manor! Not when little Stanley’s around. Today we enjoyed some pet therapy with Stanley the chihuahua before gathering together for our weekly knit & natter session. We added more squares to our ever growing blanket, each stitch done with love and care 💙💛

The residents have been creating some impressive rock art this weekend. This is an activity we started a few years ago, leaving painted rocks around the local community with words of affirmation, beautiful quotes or just lovely bright patterns to cheer people up.
At our weekly games evening the residents enjoyed a glass or two of their new favourite tipple! Rhubarb gin and ginger ale 🍺

We’ve held some great conversational activities this week, with our all about me session and a wonderful reminiscing activity, where the residents looked at old newspaper articles and logos and signs from years gone by.

At Hutton Manor, the residents like to get hands on at our weekly cooking club activity; but not as much as they enjoy the tasting!!

This week we made Malteser fudge, a gooey chocolate treat. The residents prepared the ingredients having found it in a recipe book brought in by head of activities Emma. We had a long wait overnight for the fudge to set and finally be taste tested!

I think it was an overriding success as the residents have asked to make it again!
