⭐When I work as a birth educator, one of my main goals is for mums to have a positive childbirth, despite the type of birth they have. As a woman who has experienced two positive caesareans, let me tell you that can be as empowered having a c-section as a natural birth.
💪There are different reasons why c-section deliveries happened; in all cases is about the safety of mother and baby; as they can be life saving.
👏It is one of the most common MAJOR abdominal surgeries. Where the patient is asked to walk sometimes within 12hs, and can be sent home in less than 24hs after having delivered the baby; where they need to look after themselves (as it was major surgery) and a new life. Still with it’s complications and a risk of death bigger than vaginal birth. My 2nd c-section, I went home in under 30hs after my baby was born. The speed bumps on the road, were my worst enemy during that trip back home.
☑My first caesarean, actually, emergency caesarean was after having an induction. Still, I can remember it positively (me asking everybody’s name when I arrived at theatre felt somehow reassuring). My daughter was born, safely, in no time; and the recovery was a sweet learning curve.
🧠 For mums that, for whatever reason, will be having c-sections soon; remember it can be as positive and magical as a vaginal birth. You will have a team looking after you; when you look after your new baby. Always be informed, how informed? It’s hard to know what you don’t know; but if you use the BRAINS technique to help assess how to respond to a situation, question or dilemma; you will be making a decision for yourself.
❤️Caesareans are not the “easy option”, even when women decide it from a place of fear or anxiety, it is not a decision made lightly.
✏️ If there’s one thing to take from this post, please let it be the fact that caesareans can be positive and empowering. A key to it, is always making an informed decision over your body.
