For Black History Month, we're excited to share that we hosted a wonderful event with two talented performers and a captivating speaker. Merryl, who currently brings Nala in The Lion King at the West End to life, and Sadia, also part of The Lion King cast, playing Shenzi, the main hyena, delighted everyone with their performances.
Our residents truly enjoyed their performances and praised their beautiful voices. Andrew, our inspiring speaker, shared his heartfelt journey of coming to England from Barbados and his experiences in Britain.
He also gave us a meaningful glimpse into the Windrush era, when people from the Caribbean came to help build Britain after the Second World War.
To celebrate various cultures, we offered a selection of tasty refreshments in our coffee shop for everyone to enjoy.
We also created fun flashcards and informative booklets about black inventors who developed or improved everyday items we use today.
The flashcards were specially designed to be dementia-friendly, with carefully chosen font styles and sizes to make reading easier.
It was wonderful to see everyone engaging with the stories of black history. Many residents shared that they learnt something new and enjoyed discovering more about this important part of our heritage.
A big heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success- our carers, lifestyle team, maintenance , and kitchen team. Your dedication made it all possible and truly special.
