Happy International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate all the women in our lives.

Our charity is founded and run by wonderful women, without them Still Waters would not be here.

We are also very grateful for the community of brilliant female councillors we have and for the work they do and the lives they impact.

Good news

The Government's announced a one-year £7 million funding boost for Early Support Hubs. This will help thousands of 11 to 25 year olds access free, community-based mental health support without needing a GP referral.

It's a move we’ve campaigned for as a member of the Fund the Hubs group.

But longer-term funding is crucial to ensure greater benefits for young people in need and the practitioners who work for these hubs.

💛 Children’s Mental Health Week 💛

Children’s Mental Health Week is a national awareness week led by children’s mental health charity Place2Be, created to empower, equip and give a voice to children and young people across the UK.

Belonging matters. Feeling safe, valued and included, at home, in school, with friends and in our communities is essential to mental health and wellbeing. It is a basic human need, with a lasting impact on confidence, learning, relationships and overall health.

When children feel they truly belong, they are better able to thrive, express themselves and make a positive difference in the world around them.

This year’s theme, “This is My Place,” highlights the vital role of families, schools, peers and communities in creating inclusive, nurturing environments where every child feels they belong.

Throughout this week, SAPUK will be taking part and sharing daily posts with practical ideas, activities and trusted support resources to help encourage and support children’s mental health.

Together, we can help every child feel seen, supported and valued — not just this week, but every day.

Children are still feeling the mental health impact of lockdown.

Our survey found that four in five therapists working with children are seeing rising anxiety, more complex mental health needs and growing pressure on already overstretched services.

This , we are calling on the Government to act by funding counselling in all schools and expanding Mental Health Support Teams so every child can access timely, professional support wherever they live.

Employers should never publicly disclose or make allegations about someone’s mental health.

It doesn’t matter if you are a politician, an office worker or you’re in construction, those standards should be expected wherever you work.
