East Lancashire Community Action Project Ltd (ELCAP Ltd) is delighted to announce our application to the Lancashire & South Cumbria Cancer Alliance VCFSE Small Grants Scheme has been successful. A grant of £10,000 has been awarded to deliver our 12 month project throughout 2026 where we aim to make a meaningful difference in cancer awareness, screening participation and early diagnosis within our community.

Our project with the cancer alliance funded by the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board in partnership with Spring North will see a number of radio advertisement campaigns in both the English and Urdu languages being broadcast on Pendle Community Radio - Awaz 103.1FM to listeners across East Lancashire.

Alongside this there will be a series of LIVE health radio shows taking place during our weekly ‘Aap Ki Sehat - Your Health’ radio show hosted by presenter Shakil Salam. These radio shows will feature guest speakers including doctors, consultants, cancer specialists and cancer related organisations who will be discussing various cancers, the signs and symptoms, importance of early diagnosis, treatment, screening and raising general cancer awareness within our commmunities.

During the project we will also hear directly from cancer patients who will discuss their personal experiences living with the disease and their journey of being a cancer patient.

Tune into the ‘Aap Ki Sehat’ health radio show with presenter Shakil Salam on Thursday 5th February 2026 from 4pm till 6pm for a ‘Cancer Special’ LIVE on Pendle Community Radio - Awaz 103.1FM

Joining presenter Shakil Salam at 4.15pm will be guests Dr Nicola Finnigan who is a GP Partner and the Health Inequalities Lead for Pendle along with Lynn Lockett who is the Clinical Outreach Practitioner at Pendle West Primary Care Network As part of ‘World Cancer Day’ which takes place on 4th February each year and our cancer alliance project, our guests will be discussing the importance of screening programmes for cancer including breast cancer, bowel cancer and cervical cancer screening. They will highlight what each screening involves, who should be taking the screening including the signs and symptoms you should be looking out for.

Most symptoms won’t be cancer, but getting checked early can make a real difference.

If you’ve noticed a change in your body, don’t wait. Listen to your body. Check it, don’t chance it.

📢 Important Update: New Appointment System from 1st July

From 1st July 2025, Fairmore Medical Practice is moving to a new appointment system called Accurx Total Triage.

This means that all appointment requests will first go through an online or phone triage system. You can send your request through our website or call us, and a doctor or clinician will review it and decide the best next step. This might be a same-day phone call, a face-to-face appointment, or helpful advice via message.

If your problem is routine and not urgent, your appointment may be booked for a future date — this could be in a few weeks’ time. Urgent problems will continue to be prioritised.

This change will help us make sure every patient gets the right care, at the right time, with the right clinician.

PATIENT NOTICE - CLOSED THURSDAY 15TH MAY IN THE AFTERNOON

Dear Patients,

All GP Practices in East Lancashire will be closed on Thursday 15th May from 1pm-6.30pm for Protected Learning Time. This enables practices to provide dedicated training to their staff and to discuss and plan ways that will allow them to improve services, meet demand and support the wellbeing of staff.

For all life-threatening medical emergencies please call 999. If you feel your request is urgent and cannot wait until the following day provisions have been made for urgent triage, please call 111.

For all routine requests for results, appointments, prescriptions, and general queries we will be open as usual on Friday 16th May.
