Meningococcal (MenB) vaccination – information for students

NHS England has asked GP practices to provide the MenB vaccine to a SMALL NUMBER OF STUDENTS linked to the meningococcal outbreak in Canterbury, Kent, IF THEY HAVE RETURNED HOME TO ROSSENDALE.

Whilst we understand this may be a worrying time, it is clear that is it going to be unlikely for many of our local residents to need vaccination under the current criteria that has been set for GP practices nationally.

ONLY if you have been advised that you are eligible and are currently living locally, please contact reception and inform them that your request relates to the MenB vaccination that is linked to the Canterbury outbreak.

If you have been advised that you are eligible, it is likely you will have been contacted by your university, school, or public health officials because you:

• live in specific halls of residence in Canterbury
• attended certain venues in Canterbury between 5–16 March, or
• have been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case

If you have not been contacted directly, you DO NOT need to contact the practice about vaccination.

Crescent Pharma Limited is recalling one batch of Ramipril 5 mg Capsules as a precautionary measure due to a potential error at the manufacturing site.

After last weeks announcement regarding Children's ADHD and Autism assessments, we are pleased to say the ICB have retracted their statement.

The ICB have confirmed that that LCFT will continue to accept referrals for this service as the they work to confirm a commissioned framework by the end of February. We are hopeful that this means there will not be a gap in service and we can continue to refer.

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect children from serious illness.

We’re encouraging parents to check their children are up to date with their vaccinations. Check your child's red book or speak to their GP practice.

We were very disappointed the receive the below letter from Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB late last week.

The letter advises that due to unprecedented demand we will no longer be able to refer children between the ages of 11-18 to the ADHD assessment service at Lancashire and South Cumbria foundation trust, nor will they be able to see any children that have already been referred.

This is likely to be particularly upsetting to parents and carers of 11-18 year olds that have been waiting a substantial amount of time for an ADHD assessment.

Do you struggle to attend for your smear test due to work or other commitments?

If your smear test is due (or overdue!) you can attend and have your smear taken on the cervical screening bus. The bus travels to various local locations including Hyndburn, Accrington, Blackburn and Nelson and you can just turn up, no appointment needed!
