Reclaim Mobility | End of 2025 Reflection from the Director, Nicola Rickards:

"As we come to the end of 2025 and start to look ahead to 2026, I’ve found myself feeling incredibly proud — and very grateful — for everything Reclaim Mobility has grown into this year.

One of the biggest highlights of 2025 has been seeing our multidisciplinary model truly come to life. Bringing together physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology and speech & language therapy allows us to support the whole person — not just their physical recovery, but their confidence, communication, mood and independence too. Rehabilitation is never just about muscles and movement; it affects people’s identity, relationships and their place in the world.

This year we’ve seen so many powerful functional gains — people standing again, walking further, transferring more independently, returning to driving, getting back to activities that matter to them — and just as importantly, families feeling supported, reassured and less alone in the journey.

As we move into 2026, our focus remains the same:
To deliver specialist, compassionate, multidisciplinary rehabilitation — in people’s homes, where it matters most — while continuing to bridge the gap between NHS services and longer-term community rehab.

We also look forward to supporting our charity of the year Headway Essex and emerging collaborations with New Body Gym to increase the variety of services we can offer.

We know the demand for high-quality neuro and complex rehab is growing alongside our aging population, and we’re excited to keep growing too — always with our values at the centre of what we do.

Thank you to our incredible team, our clients, and the families who trust us with such an important part of their lives.

Here’s to 2026 and everything it holds "

#2026

23/12/2025

2025 has been another great year for Reclaim Mobility and we thank all our clients and families for trusting us to support you.

We had a fantastic start to the year with winning the Rochford District Council’s ‘Start Up Business’ of the year award.

We refreshed our logo thanks to .

We have continued to work with clients with a range of medical conditions such as Stroke, Parkinsons, MS, falls, spinal injuries, the elderly and frail and much much more.

Our team has continued to expand, with our Musculo-skeletal physiotherapist, Emily. This means we can now offer this unique service of more traditional joint and pain physiotherapy treatment within people’s homes, rather than them having to travel to a clinic base.

We’ve almost doubled our home visits from 2024 with 2300+ therapy sessions completed amongst the team.

We have helped over 150 people (and their family’s) this year across the county to live more independently and increasing their overall quality of life whilst working towards and reaching their individual goals.

With a significant increase in supporting medical-legal cases with 2-3 different Reclaim Mobility professions supporting, in most cases, evidencing the need and success of multi-disciplinary team working for complex cases like these to gain best results.

Our Psychology and counselling services have really helped to build up another unique offering of our service this year by supporting those with mobility and physical health difficulties, with the emotional support they deserve too.

With more therapy sessions being offered online to work outside of the traditional approaches in order to reduce costs and provide timely support, when able.

2026 will bring more members to our team so that we can continue to grow for the increasing demands of our Essex community and client base, so watch this space.

Wishing all our clients, their loved ones, our colleagues and followers a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏽 and a Happy New Year ! 💙🎉🍾

Last month our team attended the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Conference. The key themes this year:

Using Technology & AI to Support Better Rehab:
- From tools that help track mobility to AI that supports clinical decision-making, the message was clear: technology is transforming rehabilitation.

Building the Future Physiotherapy Workforce
- There is a national focus on strengthening the workforce to meet the needs of an ageing population and younger adults with long-term disabilities.

Keeping People Active in Later Life & with Complex Conditions:
- A major conversation centred on reduced activity levels in older adults and how to re-engage people who are living with multiple conditions—such as Parkinson’s, heart disease, stroke, COPD and other lung conditions.
The overriding message: exercise IS possible and safe when supported by clinicians who understand how to tailor programmes around symptoms, fatigue, breathlessness and fluctuating mobility.

✨ Our Reflection:
-These discussions reinforced exactly why Reclaim Mobility exists—to help people stay active, confident and connected to their community and live the lives they choose, for as long as possible.

December is an unusual month for routines as they seem to go out the window! Although December can be a magical month, it does mean risks can alter as we tend to have more and/or different demands on us!

So here is a few tips to take into consideration for your elderly/disabled loves ones this season:

✨ Pacing Themselves – Decorating the tree, Christmas shopping, wrapping and social events can add up. Take regular breaks, spread tasks over time and listen to their body and rest when needed. Just because it's the Christmas season, doesn't mean our bodies turn into robots, we still need rest!

✨ Keep The Home Safe – Holiday decorations and presents around the tree etc. can create new tripping hazards. Secure loose cables, keep walkways clear, and ensure good lighting around the house. Also if loved ones go to someone else's house, they won't know where the tripping hazards are to avoid (they won't have the muscle memory in other houses) or they wont be familiar with how deep the steps are, so do a quick check before they visit, can you lift loose rugs and pick up the kid's toys.

✨ Think about practicalities - can the relative access the toilet when they visit a relative's house and will they be able to stand up from a low loo? Can they get in and out of a car or do they need some basic equipment to help with these challenges?

✨ Mind Your Energy – Fatigue can creep in quickly this time of year. Prioritize what matters most and don’t hesitate to ask for support from friends, family or your community rehab team.

✨ Stay Connected – The festive season can be joyful, but also overwhelming or lonely for some. Reach out, check in on others, and let us know if you need guidance or support.

If you need a quick one off assessment before Christmas to get your loved one 'Christmas ready' then don't hesitate to reach out

As the winter weather sets in, it’s important for older adults and disabled people to stay safe, warm, and confident at home and in the community. ❄️🧤

Here are a few key tips:

💡Make sure you have a lamp nearby because when that afternoon darkness sets in, it becomes suddenly difficult to walk about the home without a light on.
👟Choose footwear with good grip when walking outside
⏰Take your time—shorter days and slippery surfaces can affect visibility and balance. The paths are riskier, so don't rush!
🍂Ask for help with errands if paths are icy / slippery leaves etc.
👚Layer clothing to stay warm without restricting movement.
☕Keep a blanket and warm drink nearby to help maintain body temperature. Carers / loved ones can make a flask to keep nearby (if safe to do so) and then can top up with warm fluids and keep your hands warm at the same time!
🧤Ensure you have winter items ready as it's bitter cold out there! Gloves, hat and a scarf are needed at the moment.
🌨️Check the weather forecast and don't go out if you're worried about conditions or ask for a lift/help if you have an essential appointment.
📱Make sure someone knows your plans if you’re going out in poor weather and take a (charged) mobile with you

Autumn can be such a lovely time of the year for beautiful, woodland walks but that's not always an accessible option for everyone.
So autumn, can feel damp, cold and dark as the winter nights set in.

What can you do to look after your wellbeing?
- Make the most of the dry days - if your mobility is limited and that wet ground covered in leaves worry you, then keep an eye on that weather forecast and try and get out on the better days!
- To help our sleep, daylight (not lightbulbs) is the best thing for our circadian rhythms, so even if you just stand by the back door for a few minutes or step outside your back door, this is good for you!
-Layer up to keep warm - as it starts to get colder, we need to keep warm but if the heating costs concern you, then hot water bottles, blankets, warm slippers (if you are at risk of falls, then getting slipper advice may be helpful) and hot drinks can help also.
-Don't allow yourself to get socially isolate this winter - these months can feel more challenging for our mental health so booking in dates to see friends and family can give us things to look forward to and keep us socially active. Day centres, church/village hall clubs can be really useful in this time of year so we don't get lonely!

*Remember this is generic advice and we always recommend tailored therapy assessments and advice for your specific needs and goals.

✅Occupational therapy helps people stay well for longer and avoid crises – especially when occupational therapists are involved early.
🦾Occupational therapists bring unique skills that have the greatest impact when used early and in the right way.
‍🦽 Occupational therapists help avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, support recovery from hospital to home and reduce the need for long-term care – saving money across health and social care.
‍🦯 Occupational therapists help ease pressure on health, social care and special education
services.
💚Occupational therapists help reduce health inequalities and improve sustainability.
👍We want to shift the focus from crisis-driven care to prevention-focused approaches.
✅ Occupational therapists must be embedded in the places where people live, work and seek support.
🦾Occupational therapy must be central to the future of health, education and social care – supporting UK-wide plans to shift care into communities and take a more preventive approach.

We love this review as it really shows that we are doing what we believe we do best, meeting the entirety of someone's therapy needs!

Not only do we have great, experienced specialist physiotherapists but if you need to a different professional to guide you about something that isn't quite their remit, the physio's can refer to another member of our team who can help instead!

With Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Counsellor/Clinical Psychologist and Rehabilitation Assistants, we really are a 'one stop shop'!
