👣👣World Autism Day👣👣
Here’s to all my clients I’ve helped over the years to find coping mechanisms to help them through the day.
👣Sensory Regulation with Reflexology
Many children with autism experience sensory sensitivities. Gentle, predictable touch through reflexology can help desensitize the nervous system over time, and the rhythmic pressure may feel grounding and calming.
👣Reducing Anxiety & Stress
Reflexology is thought to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” state), potentially reducing cortisol levels and helping children who experience high anxiety or emotional dysregulation.
👣Improving Sleep
Sleep difficulties are very common in autism. Reflexology sessions — particularly targeting points associated with the pineal gland and nervous system — are often used to promote relaxation and support better sleep patterns
👣Trust
Regular, gentle touch in a safe, structured setting can support the development of trust between child and therapist — important for children who may find social interaction challenging.
👣Digestive Support
Gastrointestinal issues are common in autistic children. Reflexologists often work on zones corresponding to the digestive system to help ease discomfort.
