Nicola Sharp Counselling and Psychotherapy I offer Integrative therapy from my practice in Hockley, Essex. The decision to begin counselling can be a difficult one. Thank you for visiting!

For some of you, searching this page may be a big step and for others you may have had counselling previously and know the importance of finding the right counsellor. I am here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. From my own personal experience of counselling, I understand how valuable counselling/psychotherapy can be. If you are looking for friendly professional support to help you through difficult times, I am here to help. I offer counselling from my practice in Rayleigh, Essex. I am an integratively trained therapist, which means that I select the most useful parts of a range of approaches that best suit your needs. Boundaries are the invisible lines between what's ok and what's not ok.

When we communicate them, it offers people the opportunity to respect us and tell them how they can meet our emotional needs.

Many people who struggle with boundaries feel emotionally unsafe a lot of the time, and one reason for this is that they are not protecting their emotional needs with boundaries.

For example, if I feel emotionally unsafe when someone is shouting at me, if I communicate the boundary "I'm not happy with you shouting at me, I'm going to go out and when you are calm, we can talk."

This takes us out of the situation that is not emotionally safe and communicates to the other that you will only engage in certain conditions that feel right for you.

Of course we need to stick to and implement these boundaries (which can be tough) for people to respect them fully.

Sometimes we need to look at the parts of us that do t feel safe to set boundaries, and ensure they feel safe before you can do this.

We know it's good to feel our feelings.

But it can be so difficult!

Especially if those emotions are strong and overwhelming!

If there's resistance to feeling a feeling , there's probably a part of you that doesn't feel safe.

It might worry what will happen to you if you feel those feelings.

It stops you from fully feeling them in a way that feels beneficial, cathartic or therapeutic.

In therapy, we create a holding, compassionate space of containment, so that helps to support the parts of you that feel unsafe to feel those difficult parts of you.

All parts are welcome.

Sometimes we need to acknowledge the protective, resistant parts of you,stay with them until you are ready to go deeper.

This all applies to your process if you are working on yourself also.

Try not maintain gentleness and curiousity when feeling what's there.

Sometimes we can't rush the process.

Facing what we fear is hard work!

But feel the fear and do it anyway does not always work.

We can overwhelm our nervous systems and not make the traction that we hoped.

It's easy to get frustrated with the parts of us that find it difficult or overwhelming to change.

But if we maintain understanding and compassion for these parts, whilst taking small actions that feel achievable and not overwhelming this can be kinder and more effective.

It's all about tiny steps and compassion.

๐ŸŒฟMaybe because you don't feel you deserve it and that other people are more needing or important than you.

๐ŸŒฟYou have high standards that are impossible to achieve so you just keep giving/working.

๐ŸŒฟBeing of use or help to others is a big value of yours, so much so, that you forget you need your down time too.

๐ŸŒฟYou might feel guilt for stopping, for enjoying yourself or looking after yourself.
