Meningitis vaccines – we are currently receiving a high volume of phone calls and Medical Query forms regarding meningitis vaccines – PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION.
The Meningitis B vaccine was introduced to the NHS UK baby vaccine schedule in 2015. Therefore, anyone older than 11 will not have been offered a Meningitis B vaccine. We are not able to give Meningitis B vaccines outside of the NHS schedule for babies, it is only available privately at present, though we understand there is a national shortage of private vaccines. Should this change, we will contact eligible patients. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US TO ENQUIRE.
A vaccine for Meningitis ACWY is offered at school in year 9. If you are unsure whether you had this, please check your immunisation history on your NHS App first where possible. If you do not have the NHS App or cannot see it listed, please contact the school nurse team that covers the area you attended secondary school.
If you did not have the Meningitis ACWY vaccine at school and would now like it, we are able to give this under the NHS schedule to patients aged 14 to 24 years. Please call us to book an appointment.
We understand the Meningitis B outbreak is worrying and will update as necessary regarding vaccine availability.
