Kathryn Mitchell, Soft Tissue Therapist

Kathryn Mitchell, Soft Tissue Therapist Soft Tissue Therapy including Sports, Remedial and Pregnancy Massage Treatments in Southcote, Reading. EASE, RESTORE, REDISCOVER MOVEMENT.

As a Soft Tissue Therapist, I enjoy working collaboratively with individuals experiencing minor and chronic musculoskeletal injuries or pain. My approach is also ideal for anyone looking to move with greater ease or reduce tension. I work using a combination of sports, remedial, and advanced clinical massage techniques, honed through training with the London School of Sports Massage (LSSM) and the Jing Institute of Massage and Complementary Medicine. In addition to the above, I am also trained in pregnancy massage and hot stone therapy through the Jing Institute. I also have kinseology taping qualification. I am fully insured, a Member of the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage (ISRM), hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate, a BTEC L5 Professional Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy and a BTEC Professional Diploma in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage. I have also undertaken further training in Mental Health specifically developed for Massage Therapists. Before embarking on my journey as a Soft Tissue Therapist, I was a Nursery Nurse for many years, working with children with additional needs and supporting vulnerable families. This experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of care and compassion, which I bring into my therapy practice. As a mother of two young adults, I understand the demands of a busy life and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance. Outside of my work, I enjoy photography, long distance and trail running, cycling, yoga and generally spending time in the great outdoors. SERVICES AVAILABLE:

Have an incredible race this Sunday! 🏃

If you need it down the A33 - remember the cold, soggy training runs earlier this year and why you started. The feeling, achievement and medal will all be worth it when you run into the Mad Stad 🥇🔥

I look forward to seeing some of you out there on route!

As the sun makes a rare appearance and the familiar hum of lawnmowers fills the air, it’s nice to know that the better weather is here for a few days.

If you are tempted to get back out in the garden after a long, soggy, winter break, it’s worth remembering that muscles need time to adapt. Like any activity not undertaken in a while, the body needs time to adjust to an increased physical load to prevent muscle soreness and injury.

A great 2 minute, inspirational piece in Runner's World that I thought I would share for anyone else interested or needing some motivation before heading out on long training runs this weekend.

A gentle reminder that age is but a number😊

Happy reading and happy Friday whatever you are doing this weekend!

I'll be working reduced hours and at slightly different times during the weeks beginning 30th March and 6th April. After an exceptionally busy January, February and March, I’m taking a little time out to allow my body some rest and recovery so I can continue to provide a great service💆‍♀️

I will also be closed on both Bank Holidays during this period.

Thank you, as always for your continued support, patience and understanding. I’ll still be around if you need me, just moving at a slightly gentler pace for a couple of weeks.

If you are planning to book in, it is worth doing so a little in advance as appointment times may be more limited.

Thank you for keeping me busy and supporting my small business in 2026!

A little picture repost, as I’ve recently had a few questions about which part of my arm or hand I use during treatments and whether therapists’ hands get sore after a full day of work.

As a smaller therapist, my go-to techniques for larger muscle groups are often a soft fist or a relaxed forearm, which allow me to deliver effective pressure without straining my hands. I may also occasionally use my elbow to gently sink more deeply into certain muscle groups. This is always done with a 'listening touch' and guided by your verbal feedback whilst paying close attention to any non-verbal cues that might suggest discomfort.

When we use our bodies correctly, the real work doesn’t actually come from our hands at all. It is created by a strong, stable base and controlled movement generated through the hips and legs. That power is then transferred through relaxed arms, wrists, and hands to create the massage stroke. This helps to protect our hands from strain or injury.

If deeper or more specific work requires the use of fingers or thumbs, we apply them in a supported way. This means reinforcing the working digit (often by wrapping the other hand around the joint) to provide stability and reduce stress on the smaller joints. I will often use my hot stones as an extension of my hand as an alternative to protect my hands or give them a break during busier days.

I'm really not sure what that yellow thing was in the sky this morning, but it literally brightened my work day ☀️ 😊

Whilst the sound of the rain on my treatment room roof can be really quite therapeutic during appointments, it does feel like it has been on a constant loop since the start of the year🌧!

It was so nice to listen to the birds and not see raindrops or grey clouds out the window for a change.
