Continuing Bonds: You don’t have to say goodbye to love.

In bereavement, we often hear that we need to "let go" to heal. But healing doesn’t mean forgetting. In my counselling work, I gently support people in creating continuing bonds with their loved ones — a lasting, meaningful connection that brings comfort and peace.

Together, we can find ways to honour their memory, keep their presence close, and carry them with you as life moves forward.

🕊️ Grief doesn’t end love. Let's explore how to hold both.

New Year’s Eve sparkles with hope and anticipation. We make resolutions to be more fit, happier. But it doesn’t work out like that and we gradually sink into the “New Year Blues.”
Blue Monday – usually the third Monday in January is said to be the lowest day of the year, when we really feel the New Year Blues.
I offer depression therapy to lift your long term mood. Don't you owe it to yourself to feel better?

About me and Bereavement Counselling (also Grief Counselling and Pet Bereavement)

I have been providing Bereavement Counselling (also Grief Counselling and Pet Bereavement) for more than 13 years.
I focus on Bereavement and Grief as they are very complicated subjects requiring a great deal of knowledge and understanding. I offer you in-depth knowledge and experience of this subject.
About Counselling Sessions
I offer a complimentary session so that we can understand each other and establish if we can work together. This is important for both of us, for you to understand me and the way I work. For me to understand you and the issues you have. Following this we will set up regular sessions, usually once a week for the first few weeks. Once you start improve we will make the sessions every 2 or 3 weeks until you feel ok.
Counselling sessions are normally scheduled to be 50 minutes – our sessions frequently end-up being closer to an hour. Sessions are private, one-to-one, and confidential. Our sessions can be in person at my counselling rooms or by video (Zoom, Google Meet or Skype).
How I will help you
I will guide you through the 5 stages of grief. These being: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. You may not go through each stage. You may not go through the stages in sequential order. The way I see grief is that is a large jumble of emotions and you are trying to come to terms with the loss while your mind is a muddle. I will help you understand those emotions and how they fit together.
I am experienced with multiple issues. Before I focussed solely on grief and bereavement, I specialised in Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem and Stress – so I am well versed in these subjects and can help you. My background is in HR, so I have a good understanding of business life.

What are the most common types of grief?
There are many, I will try to outline the ones I see most often.
• Normal grief: This is the most common type of grief and is characterised by a range of emotions: sadness; loneliness; anger or guilt. It is usually occurs after the death of a loved one (including a pet), but can also be experienced after other losses, such as the end of a relationship or the loss of a job.
• Anticipatory grief: This can be very difficult to cope with. This type of grief occurs when you know someone is dying from a terminal illness or severe mental problem. It can be just as difficult as normal grief and may even be more difficult because you have to come to terms with the loss before it happens.
• Complicated grief: This type of grief is severe and lasts longer than normal grief. It may be seen as intense anxiety, anger, or guilt. If you have complicated grief, you may have difficulty functioning in your daily life and may need grief counselling.
• Disenfranchised grief: This type of grief occurs when the loss is not socially acknowledged or supported. This can happen in cases of miscarriage, stillbirth, su***de, or the death of a much-loved pet. As a result, you may feel isolated and alone in your grief.
• Traumatic grief: This often occurs after a sudden, unexpected, or violent death. It can be very difficult to cope with, and you may experience flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts about the death. I would certainly recommend counselling for this. .....

Bereavement Counselling. Why choose a specialist counsellor.

Would you go to your GP for cancer treatment – or to the best specialist you can find?

You don’t get better from bereavement like you can alleviate stress or overcome many other mental health isues. Thoughts about the bereaved can come back weeks, months or years later. The slightest or most unconsidered trigger can bring back unhappiness.

Most mental health issues are quite complex. Some more so than others. Counselling training will cover aspects of many different subjects. A bit like being GP, they understand a small (relatively) amount about a lot of subjects. But if you want real advice would you not go to a specialist?

There are many different approaches to bereavement. Many different theories. I have studied these for years. I have read many books, attended different training programmes. If you come to me you I will treat you as an individual with a fresh problem. I will listen to you. Discuss your needs. Understand about you and only then consider the best approach for you.
