When fear arises, lift your heart✌🏼🕊️

The victories & challenges we encounter in our yoga practice become the manual for how to live more skillfully.

Fear has a posture. When we are scared, our breath becomes shallow, our chest caves in & our shoulders roll forward. It's an unconscious attempt to protect what feels vulnerable or afraid—the heart.

Courage has a posture, too: a lifted chest, shoulder blades that sit firmly on the back, and a relaxed abdomen, all of which work in concert to strengthen the spine, stabilize the torso, elevate the emotions, and allow us to breathe more deeply, which helps reverse anxiety and fear-based tension.

That's why we practice bhekasana on retreat.

Heart-opening & courage-building, this posture requires that we lift the chest—challenging work for the shoulders and the front of the chest—while holding our legs stable in an intense quadriceps stretch.

Physically, we need tremendous strength in our back and an equal amount of flexibility in our thighs, chest, and shoulders.

This dynamic blend of strength and flexibility helps us to learn that lifting our heart in the face of fear requires courage & steadfast strength 🤍

We are a yoga studio in Wargrave offering classes, private lessons, yoga retreats & workshops for everyone, from absolute beginners to life-long yogis. Our classes are dynamic with flowing sequences of yoga postures & always include breathing practice & deep relaxation to help calm overstimulated nervous systems & reduce stress. You will emerge stronger & calmer from every session.

Our classes for children & adults with special needs are at the heart of what we do. We offer weekly private sessions for children with a variety of diagnoses, including epilepsy, Dravet Syndrone, cerebral palsy, ADHD, Autism & Asperger’s. We also offer one off workshops for local groups supporting those with special needs.

Sarah has been practising yoga for over 20 years & teaching for over a decade. She is highly experienced & has an intelligent & kind approach to yoga.
