Spring is a great time to check in on your health.

Simple checks and support can help you stay well, from monitoring your blood pressure to accessing screenings, stopping smoking, managing your weight or getting support with your mental health.

If you’ve been putting something off, now is a good time to take that first step.

Contact your GP practice to find out what support is available to you.

Meningitis is a serious infection that can become life-threatening very quickly.
Symptoms can appear suddenly and may include a high temperature, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, drowsiness or seizures. A rash may appear, but not always.

Do not wait for all symptoms to show. Trust your instincts.

If you think someone may have meningitis or sepsis, call 999 or go to A&E immediately.

If you are unsure, you can contact NHS 111 for advice.

At Melrose Surgery, we want every patient to feel comfortable, understood and welcomed.

Our team speaks a range of languages including Russian, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Nepalese, Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada and Telugu. In this video, some of our staff say hello in their own languages to show that we are here for everyone in our community.

If English is not your first language, please don’t worry. We will always do our best to communicate in a way that helps you feel supported and confident when accessing care.

Your health matters and feeling understood is an important part of that.

If you are aged 40 or over, it’s important to check your blood pressure regularly.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it can increase your risk of serious conditions like heart disease and stroke.

You can check your blood pressure:
• at home
• at your local pharmacy
• at your GP practice

If you’ve taken a reading outside the practice, please share your results with us so we can keep your records up to date and support your care.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other parts of the body. It can have a significant impact on daily life, but support and treatment are available.

Common symptoms include severe period pain, heavy periods, pelvic pain, pain during or after s*x and extreme tiredness. Symptoms can vary and may happen at any time.

It can take time to diagnose endometriosis, so it’s important to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

Contact your GP practice if:
• you think you may have endometriosis
• your symptoms are affecting your daily life
• your symptoms are not improving or are getting worse

You are not alone and support is available.

Staying hydrated is important for your overall health, but we know not everyone enjoys drinking plain water.

Aim for around 6 to 8 glasses a day. Keeping hydrated can help with digestion, concentration and preventing dehydration.

If you struggle to drink enough water, try:
• adding slices of lemon, lime or cucumber for flavour
• drinking herbal teas or diluted squash
• eating water-rich foods like fruit, salad or soup
• keeping a bottle nearby as a reminder

Small changes can make a big difference.

Staying registered with a GP is important, even when you are feeling well.

Being registered ensures you can access the support you need quickly if you become unwell and helps us provide the right care when you need it.

If you move home, please remember to update your details with the practice. If your records are not kept up to date, you may be automatically deregistered.

Keeping your information current helps us make sure you remain registered and able to access care when you need it.

If you have recently moved or need to update your details, please contact the practice.

Do you currently have cold or flu-like symptoms? 🤧

You may be able to take part in an important clinical trial looking at nasal spray treatments that could help people recover faster and reduce complications.

Researchers are looking for adults (18+) whose symptoms started within the last 2–3 days. Participation is simple and can be done from home, and you will receive compensation for your time.

If you’re interested in helping improve future treatments for cold, flu and COVID-19, scan the QR code on the poster or contact the study team to find out more.

This March we’re celebrating women, but it’s also a reminder to prioritise your health.

Many women spend their time looking after family, work and everyone around them, often putting their own symptoms last. But your health matters too.

March is ovarian cancer awareness month, so if you notice symptoms like persistent bloating, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly or needing to pass urine more often, it’s important to get checked. Most of the time it won’t be cancer, but it’s always worth discussing with your GP.

Painful or heavy periods, menopause symptoms, or being due your smear test are also important reasons to speak to us. Support and treatment is available, and you don’t have to manage these symptoms alone.

If something doesn’t feel right, or you simply want advice, please contact the practice or visit our website:
