Headlights, road-safety & awareness 🚘👀
We’ve all experienced the moment when oncoming headlights feel painfully bright. A recent article from the BBC explores how the government is planning to review head-lamp design and regulations in response to drivers reporting that they’re being “blinded” at night!

Professor Yit Yang, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough, welcomes the move - highlighting the important link between headlight glare and eye health, particularly for those living with cataracts.

Professor Yang explains that timely cataract surgery can restore both confidence and safety on the roads:
💬 “Once the cloudy lens is replaced, most patients notice a big difference — not only seeing more clearly but also feeling safer when driving at night. Good eyesight and safe headlights must go hand in hand.”

Celebrating nursing excellence🌟

A huge congratulations to Emma Firth winner of Nurse Leader of the Year at the Nursing Times Awards 2025.

And a big well done to Reb, who was shortlisted in the Nurse of the Year category.

Both are truly inspirational nurses whose compassion and leadership set an outstanding example for the nursing community.

We are incredibly proud of the talent and dedication across our workforce, and it is always a privilege to see them get recognised nationally for the skill and passion they bring to their roles every day.

We’re proud to share that Antonio Gagliardi Lugo, Oral Consultant at our Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton, was interviewed yesterday by BBC Radio Solent’s Katie Martin.

Antonio spoke about his recent volunteer work with the Refugee Crisis Foundation in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh – home to the world’s largest refugee camp – where he has been providing essential dental care and mentoring local dentists to build lasting skills and confidence.

He also discussed his passion for training and mentoring newly qualified dentists in Hampshire through the Dental Core Training programme at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Southampton. As the only UK centre offering consultant-supervised sedation training, our hospital plays an important role in developing the next generation of oral surgeons.

Interviews like this help us spread the word locally about the highly skilled teams and specialised services available at our hospitals – helping NHS and private patients access safe, expert care with shorter waiting times.
