✨Meet the Therapist: A Little About Me ✨

👋🏼I’m Jo and I’m an Adult and Child Counsellor

🎉What part of work brings me the most joy🎉
“Seeing a child or parent realise there was never anything “wrong” with them — they’ve just been carrying a lot on their own”

🎉What’s one thing I wish every child, young person or family knew about therapy? 🎉
“You don’t have to have the right words or know where to start. Therapy is simply a space where we slow things down and make sense of things together”

🎉What personal skill or quality do I rely on most in my day-to-day work? 🎉
“Curiosity. Staying curious helps me look beyond behaviour and understand what a child or family might really be communicating”

🎉What’s something outside of work that helps me stay grounded or inspired? 🎉
“Creative activities like drawing, making jewellery or painting.

🎉My favourite animal and why?🎉
“is the penguin. They do a funny little waddle when they walk. They’re friendly, they stick together, and they make me smile every time I see them.”

✨Meet the Therapist: A Little About Me ✨

👋🏼I’m Brigette and I’m a counsellor working with Children and young people.

🎉What part of work brings me the most joy🎉
“The part of my work that brings me the most joy is when a child, young person, or adult feels safe enough to be themselves. I feel privileged when someone who may be struggling to trust others starts to open up, even in small ways, and begin to make sense of their unique lived experiences. Being part of their journey and offering a safe space where they can explore their thoughts and feelings brings me a deep sense of purpose and is incredibly meaningful”

🎉What’s one thing I wish every child, young person or family knew about therapy? 🎉
“I wish every adult, child, young person, and family knew that therapy doesn’t require you to have the “right words” or to know exactly what to say. It is simply a space where someone will listen, sit alongside you, and meet you where you are in life without judgement. I believe that often the most important part of therapy is simply having someone present who is willing to sit beside you as you explore difficult feelings and experiences, therapy can be tough!”

🎉What personal skill or quality do I rely on most in my day-to-day work? 🎉
“The quality I rely on most in my work is empathy. I try to bring a calm and steady presence so that children, young people, and adults feel safe, respected, and understood. Patience and consistency are also important to me, particularly when working with people who may have experienced disruption or difficulty trusting others. I believe trust is built over time, being reliable and present can make a meaningful difference as someone begins to explore and make sense of their own unique way of seeing the world”

🎉What’s something outside of work that helps me stay grounded or inspired? 🎉
“Spending time with my horses and being outdoors helps me stay grounded. Being in nature and having quiet moments away from the busyness of everyday life allows me time to reflect and recharge. These moments of calm and connection help me maintain balance and bring a thoughtful and attentive presence into my work”

🎉My favourite animal and why?🎉
“My favourite animal is a horse. Why? throughout my life I have always been drawn to their calm, stoic presence and quiet sense of steadiness. I have always admired their sensitivity and quiet strength. Spending time with them is a place where I feel calm and grounded. The way horses connect through quiet presence and trust, rather than words, reminds me how powerful it can be simply to sit alongside someone and be truly there with them, accepting them as they are”

🎉What part of work brings me the most joy 🎉
“The moments when a child begins to feel safe enough to play freely and be themselves. Play is a child’s natural language, and it’s a privilege to be invited into their world”

🎉 What’s one thing I wish every child, young person or family knew about therapy? 🎉
“Therapy doesn’t have to feel scary. With children it often looks like playing, drawing, crafts and working with sand. Through play, children can express feelings safely and at their own pace”

🎉What personal skill or quality do I rely on most in my day-to-day work? 🎉
“Curiosity and playfulness. Following a child’s interests helps build a strong therapeutic relationship where they feel understood and accepted”

🎉What’s something outside of work that helps me stay grounded or inspired? 🎉
“Taking a moment to pause and practise gratitude helps me stay grounded. Slowing down and noticing the small, positive moments in everyday life reminds me how important it is to be present, kind to ourselves, and appreciative of the world around us”

🎉My favourite animal and why?🎉
“Chihuahua. They may be small, but they have huge personalities and lots of courage. They remind me that even when someone feels small or unsure, they can still have a big voice and lots of strength inside them, something I often see in the children I work with”

✨Meet the Therapist: A Little About Me ✨

👋🏼I’m Chanelle, a Child and Adult Counsellor

🎉What part of work brings me the most joy?🎉
“That all the younger people I see have their own uniqueness and quirks that makes them who they are. I also love to hear about their strengths and not just the things they struggle with. Seeing a child be proud of themselves for their accomplishments no matter how big or small is heartwarming. Children bring unique perspectives and curiosity to sessions which allows you to view the world from how they see it”

🎉What’s one thing I wish every child, young person or family knew about therapy? 🎉
“That every child has different needs. Some engage quickly and some take their time to be able to open up. Some children might only need a few sessions, some may need sessions over a longer period of time and that in itself is ok”

🎉What personal skill or quality do I rely on most in my day-to-day work? 🎉
“Patience I believe to be important. Children work at a pace which is suitable for them”

🎉What’s something outside of work that helps me stay grounded or inspired? 🎉
“Sleep hygiene and self care are a must”

🎉My favourite animal and why?🎉
“Elephants - They are highly intelligent, emotional, and social animals, exhibiting empathy, grief, and complex problem-solving skills. They also foster ecosystem health, such as creating water holes and aiding plant regeneration”

✨Meet the Therapist: A Little About Me ✨

👋🏼I’m Gabby, a Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner

🎉What part of work brings me the most joy?🎉
“I know it is probably a common answer but seeing the difference the support makes to children and young people, and no difference is small. Whether it’s letting the child just talk about their week, knowing they may not be able to share this with anyone else and seeing the relief on their faces and the weight lifted from their shoulders when they walk out. I also love reflecting with children on the difference they have made from the start to the end of their support. Each little step a young person takes whether it’s reaching a goal or regularly attending sessions brings me so much joy”

🎉What’s one thing I wish every child, young person or family knew about therapy? 🎉
“There’s a lot of stigma I think still attached to accessing further support and going to therapy, but the one thing I wish they knew was that it shows their strength and bravery in turning up and allowing themselves to feel what they need to feel, and to talk about their challenges. What matters is what you want from support and what you want to achieve”

🎉What personal skill or quality do I rely on most in my day-to-day work? 🎉
“I think I rely on adaptability the most and being able to personalise support to meet my clients needs. Not every day is the same and not all clients are the same, and so I cannot be prepared for every single outcome or plan sessions and expect them to go to plan. What I can do is tailor to my young persons needs and be there for them, for whatever they need”

🎉What’s something outside of work that helps me stay grounded or inspired? 🎉
“I would say reading. I started reading in Primary School and fell in love with books such as Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. I have continued this hobby and it is a big part of who I am, It allows me to be transported into different worlds and provides me space where it is just me and the characters in the book"

🎉My favourite animal and why?🎉
"I would have to say my favourite animal is a cat. I have had pet cats since I was little and I absolutely love coming home to my cat on my bed and cuddling up to them"
