๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month โ€“ Know the Signs, Save Lives ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

Ovarian cancer is often called a โ€œsilentโ€ disease because its symptoms can be subtle and easily mistaken for everyday issues. Early detection can make a huge difference.

Key symptoms to watch for:

Persistent bloating or abdominal swelling

Feeling full quickly or loss of appetite

Pelvic or abdominal pain

Changes in urinary or bowel habits

If you notice these symptoms regularly, donโ€™t ignore them โ€“ speak to your GP.

๐Ÿšจ Missed GP Appointments Matter ๐Ÿšจ

Every missed appointment at our GP surgery is time that could have been used to help another patient.

When appointments are not attended and not cancelled:
โŒ Other patients wait longer to be seen
โŒ Cliniciansโ€™ time is wasted
โŒ NHS resources are stretched further

If you canโ€™t attend your appointment, please let your GP surgery know as soon as possible. Even cancelling on the day can allow someone else to be seen.

Letโ€™s work together to make sure appointments are available for those who need them most. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’œ Rare Diseases NHS Support ๐Ÿ’œ

This week weโ€™re recognising Rare Diseases a time to raise awareness and show solidarity with the millions of people and families affected by rare conditions across the UK and beyond.

๐Ÿ’ฌ If you want connection and peer support, check out the subreddit community /r/rare diseases on Reddit a space where people share experiences, support one another, and discuss the challenges of rare conditions. Many find it a great place to ask questions and feel understood.

For official NHS help and information, here are useful links on UK health services and rare disease support:

๐Ÿ”— NHS Rare Disease Collaborative Networks (info from NHS England) how specialist centres work together to support rare condition care:
https://www.england.nhs.uk/commissioning/spec-services/highly-spec-services/rare-disease-collaborative-networks/

๐Ÿ”— Seeking a Rare Diagnosis resources (Genetic Alliance guides signposted via NHS sites):

Each rare disease is unique, and your journey matters whether youโ€™re seeking a diagnosis, navigating care with the National Health Service (NHS), or finding community online.

Letโ€™s make rare visible in Redditch. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿง’ Childrenโ€™s Mental Health Week ๐Ÿง’

This week marks Childrenโ€™s Mental Health Week, an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of supporting children and young peopleโ€™s mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Good mental health is just as important as physical health. Early support, open conversations, and access to the right information can help children develop resilience, confidence, and healthy coping skills.

If you are a parent, carer, or professional looking for guidance or support, the NHS offers trusted resources:

NHS โ€“ Children and Young Peopleโ€™s Mental Health
https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/children-and-young-adults/

NHS โ€“ Advice for Parents and Carers
https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/children-and-young-adults/advice-for-parents/

Letโ€™s continue working together to ensure children feel supported, listened to, and able to access help when they need it.
