Single leg counter movement jumps and single leg drop jumps are 2 of the most important tests when it comes to screening an athlete back to play after a major knee injury.

It takes more than passing these 2 tests to return to play, but doing the tests on force plates provides yourself and your physio key data as to where your deficits lie.
Standard horizontal hop tests can be easily cheated and they aren’t the most accurate.

And when we think about there being such a high reinjury rate with ACLs, everything needs to be tested accurately.
You need to make that these tests are included in your return to play testing battery!

ACL Testing Session 4 months post ACL reconstruction with quad graft

Cam underwent our bespoke testing battery to see if he has enough strength and capacity in the ACL leg to return to running.

This is extremely important as if you return to running too early without specific metrics hit, you are at risk of swelling, pain and you will regress in your rehabilitation.

There were more tests than this, but Cam passed his testing with flying colours and next session we will be introducing him to early plyometrics whilst carrying on making gains in quad, hamstring and calf strength

Do you think you would pass these tests with your current knee problem?

The first photo of LIFT 🍺

Where it all began. The three of us decided to go for a pint at The Brook to see if we were all in dreamland or if there was a business to be created.

We must have had a few beers as we decided to venture into the world of business that night😂

There have been times we’ve fell out. There’s been times where the idea of full time employment sounds like a dream. We’ve burned out an unhealthy amount of times (now being one of them haha!) But one thing we’ve always done is put one foot in front of the other and kept growing - and it’s now all starting to pay off.

We are constantly striving to keep building our dream clinic and we know there is a long way still to go to get to that. We have plans to further invest in our equipment and services to make our physio service even better than what it already is!

We are also so pleased we have been able to help so many people over the last 2 years and as always we are so grateful for all of your kind reviews, word of mouth referrals and advice you have all given us along the way.

One final push to the new year and we’re hoping that year 3 blows year 2 out of the water.

Thank you all as always for your ongoing support 💙

LIFT has a new toy to get people better, faster!

After knee surgery the quad will undergo atrophy and a lot of the rehabilitation will be targeted at the quadriceps.

Muscle stimulation can be a really great piece of equipment to start your rehab early even if your knee can’t tolerate exercise. It will cause your quad to fire and begin activating!

We will keep developing our service to provide better and faster outcomes for our clients!

The return to sport stage is complex, and without the right testing and right physio input, you are going to be at risk of reinjury.

1. Wrong testing battery - The more research that is coming out, the more evidence based clinics are moving away from horizontal hops tests as they do not show us where the deficits in the knee are. We use vertical hop tests on force plates, dynamometers and muscle capacity tests.

2. No data driven decisions - You should not go off someone’s opinion if you’re ready for sports. You need to be guided by data at all times in the rehabilitation.

3. Skipping on field rehabilitation - without test driving the knee on the pitch with your physio, don’t be surprised if you crash when returning to play. We have to make sure that the you can decelerate and change direction safely before returning to play.

When we made the decision in the pub to start LIFT, we could’ve only dreamed of getting it to a point where we are now. But wow it’s been a bumpy ride to get us to where we are.

I don’t think we all realised how hard it was going to be but we’re constantly learning and striving to do better.

There’s probably times we need to look after ourselves a bit more, but we feel like we’re building something really special. A special business that is going to change many people’s lives for years to come.

One final push until Christmas and we will then start rolling out new plans for 2026. I have a feeling it’s going to be a big year for all of us.

No matter how big or small a part you’ve played in our journey, we wouldn’t be where we are without you all.

Thank you 💙

To return back to sports after an ACL reconstruction can be a daunting task. Around 50% of athletes do not return back to the same level they played before and there is a high risk of re injuring the ACL.

Because of these frightening stats, it is important to find an ACL specialist physio that has all of the facilities to return you back to sports safely.

We have helped so many ACLs along their journey since starting LIFT, and our ACL specialist Cian ensure we provided the highest quality service in the area when it comes to this complex rehab.

LIFT is not a generic physio service. We provide elite level care to active individuals. We return you back to your demanding hobbies safely, confidently and stronger than ever.

If this is something you feel you need, or maybe you know someone who’s struggling with an injury, we’re here when the time is right 💪
