Silence can feel uncomfortable, until it doesn’t. Sometimes it brings clarity.

***‘Just snap out of it’***

Ha! If only it were so simple. Depression, anxiety and overwhelm doesn't respond to force of will, blame or shame. And guess what kind of approach I most commonly see in session? Yep, force of will, blaming & shaming.

Try being gentle with yourself today and see how differently you feel.

***NOISE AS AVOIDANCE***

Do you notice how easy it is to fill silence with noise? Podcasts, music, scrolling, YouTube.

Silence can sometimes feel scary, like something uncomfortable might show up - even more so if you're feeling anxious!

But what CAN show up in silence is peace, clarity and calm.

It can take some practice, but it it possible to be comfortable with your own thoughts, you don't have to rely on drowning them out.

I'm very proud to practice what I preach today!

After a very busy work week, I cancelled a plan I had made for this weekend and felt two things at once - relief and guilt.

But just because I felt guilt, it doesn't mean I've done anything wrong (in fact it means the opposite), the relief felt is actually information, a message, and I've done just what I need to do.

It doesn’t mean I don’t care, it just means my capacity needed listening to and I listened.

Pat on the back for me 😁💪,

You’re not born disliking yourself, or born believing that things are hopeless, or born believing that you are broken.
These are things that are built and grown over time. These are also things that can be unlearned. There is hope, despite how hopeless things may feel.

Just got home after a long but really positive day. New clients starting, a client ending in the most amazingly positive way, celebrating client successes and finishing prep for my 2 groups starting tomorrow.

Dinner and then a bath now I think.

How are you doing today?

All I'm seeing on socials right now is “lose weight”, “earn more”, “smash those goals”.

I just want to put my twopence worth in and say that there’s no rush to heal, no timeline to follow and no version of you that needs “fixing”.

Start with self-compassion & self-acceptance, and then you'll be in a much stronger place to start on considering what truly matters.

I have a new group starting on Thursday, where the focus is on becoming familiar with the nervous system and creating a tool box to shift back into "safe mode".

Essentially, your nervous system is always asking “Am I safe right now?”, and when the answer is no (whether real or not!), anxiety, shutdown, or overwhelm can show up.

Learning safety cues is a skill, not a personality trait and this is what we cover over the next 8 weeks. Can't wait to see how the group progress!
