NHS or private hearing aids? It's a question many people face.

The NHS provides hearing aids free of charge, which is brilliant. They offer solid technology and work perfectly well for many people. The aids are provided on long-term loan with free batteries and repairs, and they're available in several styles including BTE, body worn, and bone conduction options.

However, there are some limitations worth knowing about. The choice of styles is more restricted – you won't get the ultra-discreet models like completely-in-canal aids. The technology, whilst good, doesn't include many of the advanced features available in premium private hearing aids. And because the aids remain NHS property, any damage outside normal wear might come with charges.

Private hearing aids offer significantly more choice in styles, technology levels, and features. You own them outright, can choose from the latest innovations, and often get more personalised ongoing support.

The most important thing? Finding what works best for you as an individual. Your hearing needs, lifestyle, and preferences are unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

One of the most common calls we get: 'My mum/dad won't admit they have a hearing problem. How do I help?' 💙

It's tough watching someone you love struggle, especially when they're in denial. Here's our advice:

DO:
✅ Come from a place of love, not frustration
✅ Share specific examples: "I noticed you turned the TV up really loud during the news last night"
✅ Focus on what they're MISSING: "I want you to hear the grandkids' stories properly"
✅ Offer to go WITH them for a test
✅ Emphasise it's just information gathering - no commitment
✅ Mention home visits (less intimidating than clinics)

DON'T:
❌ Shout or use a condescending tone
❌ Say "you never listen" (it's not their fault)
❌ Push too hard - plant the seed gently
❌ Make them feel old or incapable

Your Hearing is your gateway to a network of local independent audiologists covering the UK. All our dispensers are fully qualified and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Our ethos is to provide the best quality products and services to our clients at fantastic prices. All hearing aids are supplied with a full 60 day money back guarantee and manufacturer’s warranty. Full aftercare is provided for the life of the hearing aid(s) which includes upgrades, fine tuning, servicing, retesting etc.

We have a policy of being totally transparent about our pricing. Please check out our prices and feel free to compare them to any other company. Most hearing aid retailers would be very reluctant to provide you with a price list. This is largely due to the fact that they have to charge very high prices and they are afraid you might get a quote from us!

Our dispensers are all local. Some operate from their own premises and some from opticians. All our dispensers offer a free home visit service if you would prefer. The hearing test is free as is all our service and aftercare. All you pay for is the cost of the hearing aid(s) plus the batteries.
