“In the moment I felt stiff. I felt like I wasn’t going to move.”
That’s it. Straight in, freezing, panic state. Not thinking about recovery, just trying to control the breathing and stay in it. He lasted 35 seconds, aiming for the minute next time.
After getting out and moving straight into the sauna, everything changed. He felt refreshed, energised, and more relaxed. The stiffness eased off and he actually felt good.
There was some numbness after a bit, but nothing unexpected. And after around 30 seconds, the panic started to calm down and the cold didn’t feel quite as intense.
What stood out most was how it felt after. Slightly less puffy, very tired, and relaxed enough that it could work well as part of a night-time routine - ice, shower, then bed.
