One of the biggest shifts I’m learning in motherhood at the moment is this: the work isn’t always to fix.
Sometimes it’s to listen.
With my daughter (she’s 11), we’ve started a small rule.
When she begins to tell me something, I ask:
“Would you like advice, or would you like me to just listen?”
It sounds simple. It isn’t.
Everything in me wants to jump in.
Solve. Smooth. Protect. Improve.
Because that’s what mothers do… right?
But I’m learning that presence can be more powerful than solutions.
That being a steady place to land matters more than having the right answer.
I don’t get it right every time.
But I’m noticing this: the more I listen, the more she talks.
And the more she trusts her own voice.
Less fixing.
More listening.
More space for who she already is.💚
