Unwanted facial hair. Did you know that 5-10% of females from puberty to age 45 are affected, and this increases to 40-50% after age 45. Common causes include polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS), hormonal changes, menopause, or genetics. This can lead to issues with self esteem, low self confidence, anxiety, and obsessive checking: Studies have found two-thirds of sufferers reporting they continually check mirrors and over 75% checking by touch.
There are solutions: Laser, IPL and electrolysis for example. But what’s the difference? Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that is recognised as permanent by regulatory bodies including the FDA. A very fine, sterile probe is inserted into the natural opening of each hair follicle, and a small amount of electrical energy is delivered to destroy the follicle's ability to produce hair.
How does electrolysis differ from Laser/IPl? Laser/IPL hair removal uses light energy to target the pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft, which means it works best on dark hair and lighter skin tones. Electrolysis, by contrast, works on all hair colours — including white, grey, blonde, and red — and on all skin tones, because it targets the follicle directly rather than relying on pigment contrast. Clients that have been told laser "won't work" for their hair or skin type, are often ideal electrolysis candidates.
We will be showcasing electrolysis over the next couple of weeks or so, answering your FAQs and giving a bit more insight into this treatment, so do stay tuned if facial hair is bothering you.
