From the Archives: St Mary’s Church, Reigate, circa 1930
We’ve been going through our family archives and found these incredible photographs from nearly 95 years ago.
Brothers Ron and John Stoneman direct a funeral at St Mary’s Church in Reigate around 1930. Ron, John and their younger brother, William, were the third generation of our family to take on the role of custodians of the family business. Ron’s personality and gentle sense of humour are still affectionately remembered by many in our community.
Looking at these images, we can see how some things have evolved while others remain constant. Today we offer far more personalisation options than would have been possible in Ron and John’s time, yet certain traditions continue. Six generations of our family have walked in front of hearses, representing the families we serve and their loved ones on their final journey. Unless asked otherwise, everyone in our care receives this mark of respect.
The principles behind what we do have been passed down through the generations - we are trained to feel privileged to be entrusted with someone’s care, and to treat every person with the respect and gentleness we would expect for our own loved ones.
