🌟 Jess’s Rule – Your Voice Matters 🌟

Jess’s Rule supports patients, families, and carers to speak up if they are worried about a patient’s condition.

If concerns aren’t being addressed and something doesn’t feel right, Jess’s Rule provides a clear way to escalate concerns so the patient can be reviewed and supported.

The aims are simple:
👂 Making sure patients are listened to
⏰ Encouraging early action
🛡️ Improving patient safety and care

We encourage patients and families to always feel confident asking questions and raising concerns about their care.

World Cancer Day is a chance to raise awareness of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and the importance of national screening programmes for bowel, breast and cervical cancer. Screening can help find changes early, before symptoms appear, when treatment is more likely to be successful. 💙✨

Many people diagnosed with cancer now live longer and better lives thanks to improvements in detection, treatment and support. Understanding risk factors, making healthy lifestyle choices and attending screening when invited can all help reduce risk and improve survival. Support is also available for anyone affected by cancer, from diagnosis through recovery and beyond. 🎗️

Sexual Violence Awareness Week is a time to highlight support for anyone affected by sexual assault or sexual violence, including women and men. 💜

Help is available if you have experienced abuse, are worried about someone else, or need advice on staying safe. Confidential support, medical care, forensic services and sexual health checks (including STI testing) can be accessed through specialist services.

You may also see emergency alert test notifications on your phone during national testing. Opting out can help some people keep phones hidden and safe, as these alerts override silent and do not disturb settings.

You are not alone, and support is there when you are ready. 🕊️🩺✨

💊 Pharmacy First: the right care, closer to home

Pharmacy First allows people to get advice and treatment for some common conditions directly from a local pharmacy, without needing to see a GP first. Pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can assess symptoms and provide advice or treatment where appropriate.

You can use Pharmacy First for:

Sinusitis: aged 12 years and over
Sore throat: aged 5 years and over
Earache (acute otitis media): aged 1 to 17 years
Infected insect bites: aged 1 year and over
Impetigo: aged 1 year and over
Shingles: aged 18 years and over
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs): women aged 16 to 64 years

A pharmacy is a good first choice when symptoms are mild to moderate, same-day advice is needed, or it is outside normal surgery hours.

Jess’s Rule: Three Strikes and We Rethink

If you come to see us three times with the same symptoms or concerns, especially if they continue, get worse, or have no clear explanation, it is a sign for us to take a closer look.

Reflect – We will think back over what you have told us. Has anything changed, or could something have been missed? We will make sure you get ongoing care, and if previous appointments were online, we may ask to see you in person for a full check-up.

Review – If there is still uncertainty, we may ask a colleague for their view and check for any warning signs that could suggest a different cause, no matter your age or background.

Rethink – If needed, we will arrange further tests or refer you to a specialist so you get the care you need.

Three visits are not just a number. They are a signal to pause, review carefully, and make sure nothing is overlooked.
