Ever heard of Seva?
At the ashram we did
everything together.
Everyone chipped in, everyone pulled their weight. No hierarchy, just showing up.
Seva basically means selfless service.
Yoga doesn’t stop when the mat rolls up. It’s not just breathwork, poses, or meditation. We were taught that the awareness you build through Kundalini Yoga really comes alive when you use it in service of others.
Seva is giving without expecting anything back. No praise, no thank yous, no gold star ⭐️
(Which honestly takes practice… because let’s be honest, we do like a bit of appreciation — especially in relationships and with chores!)
The belief is that seva raises the consciousness of both the person giving and the person receiving.
You’ll hear yogis talk about Karma Yoga — contributing to the collective by doing what needs to be done. Cleaning shared spaces, cooking for others, helping out simply because it helps everyone. I wish the world ran this way! It really feels beautiful.
And seva doesn’t have to be big or dramatic. It can be listening to someone who’s having a hard day, making tea, or kindly clearing up after someone else. (That’s me every day then! Being mum!)
The heart of seva is simple:
Energy beyond the self.
Giving without needing anything in return — not even acknowledgment.
What a lovely time of year to think about doing things for others. 🤗
