I hear too many new mums saying their birth went well but the postnatal ward experience was disappointing. Women who felt forgotten, hungry and misinformed.
I want new mothers to feel safe, content, grounded as they navigate the early days with their baby. Oxytocin, the hormone that supports breastfeeding and bonding, works best when you’re not disturbed, stressed and interrupted. Having someone you can trust and depend upon by your side boosts those hormones which in turn will help your recovery and emotional wellbeing. Feel supported and cared for long after being discharged if you want postnatal support to continue as you transition home and learn to adjust to life with your new family member.

After the intensity of the day has passed and your baby rests safely in your arms. There’s a moment in the evening as the day starts to settle when you and a your partner are hit with tiredness and hunger. Your body feels sore. You’re adjusting to feeding. Whilst replaying the days events in your mind. In a hospital that is unfamiliar, clinical and constantly changing around you.
They don't want to leave you alone with a call bell that might not be responded to. You don't want them to leave but can see they're tired and emotionally exhausted.
This is often the most vulnerable point and when I arrive to stay by your side overnight.
