🍊Spelt is an ancient grain that has looser gluten strands making it easier to digest particularly if you have problems with gluten.

🍊If you have IBS symptoms, try swapping to spelt products and keep a record of your symptoms.

🍊Spelt flour is great for baking and adding to sauces, soups, curries and stews. As it is a plain flour, do add baking powder when baking.

Check out this amazing Daily Mail article from Debbie Grayson who is pioneering to change our mindset regarding acid reflux medication/PPIs. So many people are left on this medication and leading to disrupted digestion and may influence mental health. Debbie and her reflux practitioners (including myself) are raising awareness and helping clients improve their symptoms of acid reflux, bloating, stomach pains, constipation, diarrhoea and indigestion.

Pharmacist Deborah Grayson has warned of 'rebound reflux', which happens when the medication makes the problem worse, making patients more dependent on it.

🍊What’s in season in January🍊

🍊Fruits - most fruits are not available in these winter months. Best to eat stored apples, pears and rhubarb.

🍊Vegetables - Great to focus on during the cold winter. Have in hearty soups or roasted in the oven. Best for the season are Brussels sprouts, cabbages (red, white, savoy), celeriac,
Kale, parsnips and swedes.

🍊Eating food in season when they have been harvested means they have a higher concentration of their vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than out of season or forced.

🍊They taste better as they have had time to develop their natural sugars

🍊If you buy locally as well, there is less impact on the environment as they have travelled less.

🍊 They have less preservatives and may have needed less pesticides so reducing your exposure to chemicals.

🍊You are connecting with the natural rhythm of the seasons.

🍊It’s time to leave 2023 behind with all the good and not so good memories and now look to 2024 to start afresh making New Year’s resolutions.
