Chilblains ❄️🧊😔

With the drop in tempreture I'm seeing quite a few people presenting with small painful areas - chilblains.

Chilblains are small, itchy, swollen areas of skin that occur after being exposed to cold and damp conditions. They typically develop on the fingers or toes. They can cause redness, swelling, and discomfort and may appear as purple or dark spots. Chilblains are a result of poor blood circulation in cold temperatures, which can cause blood vessels to constrict and then expand, leading to inflammation. They usually heal on their but they can be painful and uncomfortable during the process, however if the chilblain is traumatised , for example itched too much, they can ulcerate and lead to a risk of infection.
its always recommend to get them checked out and follow your footcare specialists advice.

heres my advice -
1. Try not to itch them, although they may feel itchy try not to damage them as they have the potential to ulcerate.
2. wear 2 pairs of thin socks. rather than one pair of thick socks, 2 thin pairs will help keep the feet a little warmer and lessen your symptoms.
3 - keep your body tempreture at a nice warm tempreture and participate in some gentle exercise to get that circulation moving.
4- I recommend using a gentle " warming cream" comment below if you want my brand recommendation.
5 - DO NOT attempt to warm your feet up too quickly eg in front of the fire or in hot water, this will cause the vessels to open to quickly and become even more painful
6 - Do go and see your foot specialists they can give you good advice on treatment and prevention.

✅️Fungal nail testing ✅️

Getting the diagnosis right matters.

Not every thick or damaged nail is a fungal infection.
Before starting treatment, it is important to confirm the cause with proper testing.
