ESSENTIAL OILS SPOTLIGHT

Once a month I feature an essential oil on my page and share the properties that the oil is known for, as well as its common uses.

This month we'll be looking at... Fennel!

As we get closer to the end of the year and upcoming Festive celebrations, I thought Fennel would be an apt choice due to it's incredible natural detoxing properties.

My go-to essential oil for cleansing, Fennel helps to clean the body and clear skin by stimulating the kidneys, ridding excess water retention and toxins - making it perfect for hangovers and the indulgence of Christmas party season!

Continuing the detox theme, emotionally Fennel can help one let go of unnecessary attachments, (feelings from divorce, resentment, grudges) and can discourage unwanted thoughts from the mind.

As well as this, Fennel stimulates the immune system, helping to ward of nasty coughs and colds circulating at this time of year. It is also an essential oil that has been proven to ease PMT and symptoms of the menopause.

Fennel is steam distilled from the crushed seeds, twigs and leaves of the plant and has a herby, sweet, warming, liqourice-like aroma.

I like to blend Fennel with other herbaceous or floral essential oils to balance out it's heady aroma, but we always create a blend together that focuses on your individual needs, wants and desires.

ESSENTIAL OILS SPOTLIGHT

Once a month I feature an essential oil on my page and share the properties that the oil is known for, as well as its common uses.

This month we'll be looking at... Cedarwood!

It is a poignant time of year to highlight the benefits of Cedarwood, given it's natural antiseptic and expectorant qualities making it one of my go-to oils for coughs and cold prevention!

Cedarwood is wonderful for respiratory problems in general, as the oil encourages the mucus in the system to thin and loosen, making it easier for the body to cough up and out.

It is a superb oil for physical ailments in the body in general - fungal infections, muscle aches and stiffness, dandruff, acne, excess oil production. Like Fennel, Cedarwood is also a good detoxer, which makes it an ideal choice for cellulite and excess water retention.

Like Frankincense, our last spotlighted oil, Cedarwood is steam distilled and is another base oil, meaning the aroma lasts for a long time - which is why it is often used in scented candles. The woody, sharp, pine-like scents are sedative and can reduce anxiety and tension.
