Residents at our Brockenhurst home, Woodpeckers, recently welcomed friends, families, and the local community to their fifth annual Festival of Light ✨

The garden came alive with colourful lanterns, stained glass-style stars, and candle-lit pumpkins — all decorated by residents during arts and crafts sessions. Around 130 visitors enjoyed the sparkling displays, raising over £350 for Olivia Inspires, a charity supporting young people in the New Forest.

Companionship Team Leader Jane said, “Once again the festival provided an uplifting and sustainable alternative to traditional fireworks events. Our residents played a key role in creating every display using reused, repurposed, and natural materials.”

Resident Margaret added, “We surpassed previous years’ festivals. I’m not sure how we can top it next year!”

Kingfishers Care Home resident Alan recently celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by friends, family, and the Kingfishers team. The day was made even more special by a visit from Colten Care founder John Colwell, who joined the festivities to offer his personal congratulations and share in the joy of this milestone.

Further highlights of the day included a live performance of one of Alan’s favourite pieces, O mio babbino caro, sung beautifully by Companionship Team member Beverly, delighting all in attendance 🎶

Alan himself shared heartfelt thanks to everyone at Kingfishers, adding that he was full of gratitude at being part of the ‘Kingfishers family’ ❤️

Across all Colten Care homes, residents, families, and team members have come together this past week to honour those who served and sacrificed.

Moments of quiet reflection have sat alongside acts of creativity and community, from handmade poppy displays and heart-felt reminiscence to community parades and services of reflection. Each of our 21 homes has marked Remembrance in a way that feels deeply personal and meaningful.

What a pleasure to make this wish come true for Dotty ✨

Our wonderful Companionship Team at Avon Cliff Care Home arranged for Dotty to spend the day volunteering at Wessex Cancer Support's Westbourne shop, after she expressed how much she would love to re-visit her days in retail.

When Abbotts Barton resident Chloe celebrated her 100th birthday, the team made sure it was a day she’d never forget.

Knowing how fondly Chloe speaks of her childhood pony, the team secretly arranged a very special surprise — a visit from Freddie the pony, who trotted in to wish her a happy birthday in true style.

Chloe was delighted, saying: “I didn’t expect a treat like this. You always go that bit further in everything you do for me.”

It was a beautiful moment that perfectly captured the warmth, care, and creativity our teams bring to every celebration.

St Catherines View Dementia Care Home resident John celebrated his 75th birthday with a dream road trip in a VW campervan, thanks to the thoughtfulness of our team.

Joined by his wife Veronica and Companionship Team Leader Laura, John enjoyed a scenic journey through the New Forest, a picnic on Whitefield Moor, and a short stroll amid the heathland.

Laura arranged the special day after learning it had long been a wish for John and Veronica to experience campervan life. The couple also enjoyed a celebratory birthday tea with family back at the home.

It was a truly wonderful way to mark a milestone birthday and bring a cherished dream to life!

Colten Care were delighted to host a Volunteers Celebration for the Fundraising Team at Forest Holme Hospice Charity at Bourne View Care Home on Wednesday 🌿💛

The event celebrated the most amazing people who go above and beyond, day in and day out, to support the Hospice and its vital fundraising efforts.

We were honoured to welcome Jeff Mostyn, who gave an inspirational talk that perfectly captured just why volunteers are such an incredible asset to the hospice team.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Hospitality team who, led by Lorna Parsons, delivered an exceptional afternoon tea, and to Claire Manners for her beautiful saxophone performance that set the perfect tone for the afternoon.

It was truly a privilege to host this event and to continue supporting Forest Holme Hospice and their incredible team once again.

Residents and staff at our Castle View Care Home in Poundbury marked their Harvest Festival in the true spirit of giving — donating their entire collection of food to Dorchester Foodbank and Food Share to support local families in need.

The colourful display of pumpkins, apples, bread, and seasonal vegetables was gathered for the home’s traditional harvest service before being shared with the community. Within just 24 hours, much of the produce had already reached families across Poundbury and Dorchester.

Liz Meech from Food Share described the donation as “a lovely act of kindness”, adding that it helped reduce how much food needed to be bought for emergency parcels.

Castle View's Companionship Team Leader, Hayley, said: “It felt wonderful to give direct, practical support to our community. Our residents have been so creative and generous, and this was a lovely way to give back.”

Residents and staff from Fernhill Dementia Care Home recently joined the Ferndown Memory Walk to support the Ferndown dementia friendly town initiative.

Walking alongside local businesses, fellow care providers, and community members, the team helped raise awareness of dementia and celebrate a truly inclusive community.

Home Manager Lorraine Bell said: “Being part of this was a special experience. It was a powerful show of unity.”
