Ovarian cancer is the 6th most common cancer in women in the UK
& 7,500 people are diagnosed every year.

Anyone of any age with ovaries can develop ovarian cancer, although it is most common during and after the menopause.

Ovarian cancer does have symptoms:
· feeling bloated
· tummy pain
· feeling full quickly
· weeing more often.

Remember if you have these symptoms persistently your GP wants to hear from you!

Our local Cancer Awareness Roadshow is visiting nearby supermarkets this December. This is a great opportunity to speak to health professionals, learn about the signs and symptoms of cancer, and get advice on when to seek help.

Early detection saves lives – knowing the signs and acting early can make a big difference.

📍 Upcoming Locations:
• Tesco, Silk Street – Friday 5 December
• Asda, Rochdale Superstore – Thursday 4 December
• Morrisons, Heywood – Saturday 6 December

Pop along if you’re nearby, have a chat with the team, and pick up helpful information about cancer awareness and prevention.

Please share with friends and family who may benefit. Together we can help our community Get Cancer Clever.

🌙 Healthy Eating Tips for Ramadan

As we enter the blessed month of Ramadan, maintaining a balanced and nourishing diet is essential to support your energy levels, hydration, and overall wellbeing while fasting.

Our PCN Dietician Karen Irvine and PCN Health & Wellbeing Coach Shanhaz Waseem have shared the following helpful tips to keep you feeling your best throughout the month:

🥗 Don’t Skip Suhoor (Pre-Dawn Meal)
Choose slow-release energy foods such as wholegrains (porridge, wholemeal bread), eggs, yoghurt, fruit, and nuts to help keep you fuller for longer.

💧 Stay Hydrated
Aim to drink plenty of water between Iftar and Suhoor. Try to limit caffeinated and sugary drinks, as they can contribute to dehydration.

🍽️ Break Your Fast Gently
Start with water and dates, followed by a light, balanced meal. Avoid overeating or consuming large amounts of fried and high-sugar foods.

🥘 Balance Your Iftar Plate
Include a variety of foods:
• Lean proteins (chicken, fish, beans, lentils)
• Wholegrains (brown rice, wholemeal chapati)
• Plenty of vegetables
• Healthy fats in moderation

🍎 Smart Snacking
If you’re having snacks in the evening, opt for fruit, yoghurt, nuts, or small portions rather than sweets and pastries.

🚶‍♂️ Keep Moving Gently
Light activity, such as a short walk after Iftar, can support digestion and overall wellbeing.

If you have any specific health conditions (such as diabetes), please seek personalised advice from a healthcare professional before fasting.

Wishing everyone observing Ramadan a peaceful and healthy month 🌙

The HPV vaccine helps prevent HPV related cancers in both boys and girls – these cancers include cervical, a**l, ge***al, head and neck cancers. The vaccination is offered to boys and girls aged 12 to 13 years old (in school Year 8).

Since the vaccine was introduced in England, there has been a drop in the number of cases of HPV and it is expected to save hundreds of lives every year.
