A reflection from Trustees Weekโฆ
Our wonderful Chair of the Board of Trustees, Lesley Mort, shared with us what she loves about being a Trustee and how vital they are for Hospices. ๐
โI joined the Board of Trustees at Springhill 10 years ago, and immediately realised the vital role that Trustees must play in ensuring that palliative and end of life care services are well governed and of the highest possible quality, and that an effective Board is vital to the success of the Hospice.
โThree years ago, I was appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees here, which has given me an opportunity to develop the Board further with several new Trustees who have brought a much-valued range of skills and expertise to support the Executive team, more robust governance systems and more effective Board meetings. I have enjoyed my role immensely and am proud of what we have achieved, including a CQC rating of " Outstanding".
โAs a Trustee, we also all perform an ambassadorial role for the Hospice at events and within our local communities to ensure the high profile of the Hospice is maintained, which helps to generate much-needed funds.
"On a personal level, I continue to learn new skills as I enter my second term as Chair and whilst the role is challenging, I remain optimistic for the future of Springhill and hope to continue in this role for as long as I can.
โSo, if you are thinking about becoming a Trustee, I would say don't hang back- give it a try!โ
