A new version of Clarity has just been released. It’s free to download from the Data Apex website if you are registered with them and have a login. To use it you will still need your Clarity licence key (dongle).

If you have not updated your Clarity licence before, you are welcome, even quite strongly advised, to give us a call before doing it. 07973-428867 in the UK.

The new version contains some updated drivers for Sykam instruments among other things.

Very pleased to see this post from Data Apex. We totally agree.

We at DataApex condemn the war in Ukraine; the Russian invasion is an unprecedented attack on a sovereign state, and we urge the Russian government to stop the aggression immediately. We fully support the Ukrainian people in this war, a threat to the whole world. Coming from a country that experienced Russian invasion and occupation, we take this threat personally.

In light of these facts, DataApex will immediately cease direct business activities with companies from the Russian Federation and Belarus. We hope that all our business partners will join us.

We also understand that not all Russian citizens support the war. However, now is the time for Russian citizens to speak out. For those of you who have access to news outside of Russian propaganda, we urge you to share information about the real situation in Ukraine.

Good news for users of Data Apex Clarity HPLC Data System! Another new update has been released. And unlike other Data Systems, Clarity updates are Free of Charge!

To download it for free, go to DataApex.com and login. If you are not already registered, this is a good time to do it.

You don’t have to update, but it’s a good idea to do it at least once a year. If you ever need to ask Data Apex for support, their first question will be ‘are you using the latest version!’

When you download the new file it always comes as a file called Install, so if you don’t want to accumulate lots of install files, rename this to Install86 or something so you will know this one is Clarity 8.6.

You can run the install from the downloads directory, or move it on a USB drive to another PC. It will run faster if it’s on the hard drive of your lab pc than straight off the flash drive.

The install process first asks to uninstall the old version. This is a good idea in case any old files were corrupted, and gives you the latest version of everything in exchange. To be safe, make a copy of your existing Clarity directory and call it ClarityBackup (or something) just in case anything goes wrong during the update.

Be careful if you tick the box to uninstall drivers. If you want to have the security dongle driver updated (and it does in version 8.6) you must restart the pc and remove the dongle before updating. Otherwise the dongle driver will be running (and hence not updated) and in this case, the old driver won’t then be recognised in version 8.6 and it reports the dongle as missing.

If the install appears to stop, close unnecessary windows and look for a dialog box that annoyingly doesn’t come to the front! Think of it as an intelligence test that it’s waiting for you to pass before it completes the installation!

Another Sykam S500 system, this time installed in Leeds. A very enjoyable week, the training went well, and the system is working perfectly with the Clarity Data System. Each module has such a clear display that it’s easy to see what is going on from the other side of the lab. And really nice to have the diode array detector - it makes method development so much easier!
